What are some advantages to joining a sorority?

instant network of friends

You won’t be able to be intensely annoyed on bid day when the sororities run through the residence halls screaming and pulling girls out of their rooms, because you’ll be involved!

haha ok

Is any of it worth the money though?

I am thinking of rushing a pre-law sorority. That would have obvious benefits besides just the social connection. Whether or not it’s really worth the money, I think, would depend on the greek system and the specific sorority. I liked the idea of having a real opportunity to have a group of girl friends, it’s hard for me to make girl friends, but I would have had to turn over every dollar I earn the whole time I’m in college to afford dues and outfits for formals. So I didn’t rush.

Well I’m in a fraternity so it’s abit different with the advantages but I have a lot of friends who are in sororities and this is what I hear.

Advantages:
- As said best network of friends and meeting new people from parties and your sisters.
- Invitations to fraternity parties instantly.
- Pledge Parties, one of the best parties socially and you know…
- Networking with alumni
- Involvement is shown on resume, and never know if the HR is a fellow sister!(True story but with a brother, but this is more with the social fraternity/sororities)
- Will never really be bored after you finish work
- People to go to when you need help
- Be part of one of the biggest charity movements in the world, since the Greek community donates millions of dollars a year to various organizations :)

Disadvantages:
- Most houses socially have a somewhat strict requirement of your commitment to almost every events from philanthrophies, social functions, chapter, etc.
- Living in a house full of girls (This is actually a complaint I hear alot since all that drama that arises and how most girls are socially better with guys than girls)

Thats all I can really say about the disadvantages… There may be more but I’m sure there are members on CC who can add their input from their current or past experience in a sorority.
