According to the UA Panhellenic site, there are 2 weekends (Feb. & March) for Greek preview. Anyone know if an out of stater should attend both or just the March date?

Thanks!!

Thanks!!

The two weekends listed on the Panhellenic website are when Bama sororities can host pre-recruitment events in Tuscaloosa. These events are by invitation only.

The second weekend happens to coincide with Panhellenic Preview on Saturday March 24th. This event is hosted by Panhellenic and although you need to sign up for it (sign-ups are usually at the end of January) and there is a small fee you do not need an invitation to attend.

During that weekend (March 23-25) many if not most of the sororities on campus will have teas, bbq’s and get togethers. They send out invitations to these events to girls both instate and OOS who are, for lack of a better term, “on their radar”. This can because an alum has contacted them asking that a particular girl be invited, they know the PNM because of high school ties, a rec letter has arrived and it has peeked their interest…there are a variety of reasons. Most houses have been putting together theses invite lists since November. Many of these girls have received Christmas cards as well a little notes from the houses.

I know that Panhellenic had said that there was going to be a way to sign up if you were interested in getting an invite to these events but from what I hear that hasn’t happened yet.

One weekend each month from January through April the different sororities will hold invite events. The Feb. and March dates are the only time they can do this in Tuscaloosa. Many houses will “travel” with a group of girls (usually the president of the house, exec board and then girls who are from the city they are traveling to) to hold teas or get togethers at an alums house, country club or restaurant. Some popular destinations are Atlanta, Birmingham, Nashville, Huntsville…usually nothing over 3-4 hours away.

Because you are OOS, if you are able, I would most definitely attend the March date. Its a lot of fun, you will get to meet lots of girls and their mothers. Panhellenic does a great job of giving lots of recruitment info from what to wear to the financials of it all. You will be broken into Rho Chi groups and will visit each house for a VERY short period of time. While you are visiting an information session will be held for parents. In the past there has been the opportunity to buy t-shirts (your first of many…make sure you get a size at least 1 size larger than you normally wear).

One word of advice. When you visit each house you get a very “brief” snapshot of it’s members and what life is like in that particular sorority. As you embark on the road to recruitment always keep an open mind. We call it maximizing your options. If you maximize your options you will have a positive recruitment experience. We are again expecting a record amount of young women to go through recruitment this year…be open to what each house has to offer.

Also if you are planning on going through recruitment make sure your Facebook page is “grandma” clean ie" make sure that there’s nothing on there that you wouldn’t want your grandmother to see.

Take a deep breath and enjoy ride.

Roll Tide!!

SMBradshaw - Panhellenic is also holding some out of state receptions. See if any of these work for you.
