Greek - Rush

Is it too late rush this fall if my daughter hasn’t registered/applied yet

Greek rushes at DU occur after school starts in September.

Does my daughter need to register in advance and have recommendation letters submitted for alumni?

As a former ZAE President, the alumni letters had little impact historically for the boys during rush. Are they important for the sororities?

She can sign up now or when school starts. LOR are not that important unless she is a legacy to a house. They are treated a little differently as far as invitations back to a house (but not that differently and it really doesn’t matter). LOR’s are nice in that they usually give a little introduction and list the interest of the girl, so the house might try to match her with a member who also has those interests. However, that doesn’t always work and most people are fine talking to whoever welcomes them at the door.

Answer would be different at a southern college where LOR’s are the norm and important. Not so at DU.

What is the competition? Many can only let 40 - 60% into sororities based on numbers…
Does anyone what percentage are typically accepted each fall? Thanks

@ccooke925, the university’s panhellenic website might have stats for you, but be sure the percentage of girls who wind up pledging takes into account the number of girls who did not have a HS GPA sufficiently above the chapter minimum as well as the number of girls who actually maximized their options (in short, who didn’t decide that if they didn’t get a bid from XYZ house, they would withdraw from recruitment).

@yaupon Thank you for great feedback. What is the GPA grade requirement? Since my daughter is a transfer and coming in a sophomore. Many of the PAC 12 and BIG 10 school offer bids to 40 - 50% so I should I assume DU has similar setup.

Minimum GPA varies; the DU sororities’ individual websites or the DU panhel website should have that information. There is usually a booklet that the university panhel will make available to girls who have registered for recruitment that should include minimum GPA. Some chapters may consider girls with a GPA as low as 2.0, but 3.0 is more common and of course, the higher the GPA, the better. I believe in your D’s case that it is her GPA from her previous university that will count.

My understanding is that DU recruitment is not as competitive as that of SEC schools, but I would not hazard a guess as to the percent of DU pnms who are offered bids. Note that it is sometimes more difficult to receive a bid as a transfer or upperclass student – depends on the chapter quota.
