Those "top" lists are pretty funny... Two of the fraternities no longer exist (and one of them has now taken on the same lettes as the National German Honor Society, which makes for some interesting reads in the newspaper). Psi Upsilon is a co-ed group, so technically it should be on both lists, right? And how do groups "tie," exactly?

I would like to think that the top fraternities or sororities are the ones that have the men or women that you most want to hang out with, do community service with, and be associated with.

As far as these so-called rankings, I would wait until you get to campus and explore them for yourself. First, you have to decide whether or not you actually want to go Greek - it's definitely not for everyone. Also, going in thinking you want a bid from the #1 frat or sorority is probably the wrong way to approach the process. These rankings are also probably colored by each respondant's affliliation (by the way, I'm not Greek).

I just noticed the third poster's rankings, and I just wanted to clarify that it's Chi Psi, not Psi Chi, and they actually are receiving a section next year along with DTD, which will hopefully increase their visibility a little. I'd like to clarify that I am not a Chi Psi myself (I'm not even a guy), but I know several of the guys and they seem to bill themselves as the "fraternity for guys who didn't think they wanted to join a fraternity," which is very accurate. If you're looking for the "typical" fraternity experience, you may want to rush elsewhere, but they are a small but nice and diverse group of guys who are worth a look if you are unsure about the idea of pledging. When they say there is no hazing, they really mean it, unlike a lot of the other fraternities on campus, and you will very rarely see a popped collar in their section. No one really knows who they are yet (obviously), so I wanted to give them a brief shout out on this thread, especially since their name got messed up at the beginning of it. Best of luck to anyone who decides to participate in fraternity or sorority recruitment!
