Green Card but International Student

I have a classmate that has a green card but she has never studied in US
which pool is she in?

She has a green card. So she’s permanent-resident and US citizens pool.

If she is a permanent resident but she has never studied on the US, the most likely scenario is that she has lost her residency. Usually you cannot reside overseas for more than six months without losing it unless you have special permission. She will still have her actual card, that does not mean it is still valid. These conditions are pretty straightforward but a lot of people are unaware or choose to ignore them at their own risk. In other words, unless she has special permission, she is no longer a permanent resident and therefore belongs to the international pool.

Lots of people have green cards, but completed all of their secondary education outside the US.

She needs to contact the place(s) that she intends to apply to, and ask them how to proceed. Many will require that she have her transcripts formally evaluated by one of the organizations that does that. I usually recommend http://wes.org/</a> because their evaluations are widely accepted.

And as an aside, green card kids resident in the USA applying to US schools may not qualify for certain
scholarships. And as INfo points out, the GC is not longer a travel document and hopefully this kid has established her residential status before assuming she will get in to the US for school.

I would like to correct my previous post about losing pemanent resident status. It is not six months but over one year without permission. Please see
