The GREs are changing next year. Should they be taken now or wait for the new ones which will be longer and presumably harder?

Both formats have their cons and cons (aren't I cute).

I feel like the current format is easier to cram for if you're willing to grind through the practice problems and memorization.

Know your strengths. If you think you will do better on the current one, take it, and perhaps some school you're interested in will take either, so then you have the probably better score. Perhaps the schools will only take the "new" one, and then you will have to retake it, but perhaps this works better with your strengths.

The GRE probably won't do too much for or against you compared to GPA, courses taken, published material and research, letters of rec, and statement of purpose, though.

I doubt there will be schools which only accept the new one. All of my applications have a spot for writing the Analytical score, even though that section was replaced by Analytical Writing 3 or 4 years ago.

take it now, and if you dont do well, you can take the new one.
