Decisions should be out around this time next month. Figured it was a good time to start this thread.
Is anyone who got early admission going to the program on March 1st- 2nd?
Patiently waiting with crossed fingers ?
Hello everyone, by not writing the optional essay am I lowering my chances?
Yes, my son got an early admission email and following snail mail letters, even though he applied RD. We just got back home from admitted days, which were Sunday and Monday.
BTW, reception was 1st class - food and drinks - I cannot complain. The first person to approach us and introduce himself was the president. Unbelievable. Turns out that at some point he lived in the same city as we do and knew my kid’s high school (had no effect on the decision, I am 100% sure of that).
I think that it may lower your chance a bit. However, I did not submit the optional essay and I still got in RD via early notification back in February. (hopefully, that makes you feel a little better) As long as you spent time on your personal essay I think you will be completely fine!
Grinnell has always been interesting in the way they choose their admits; it certainly is one of the more unpredictable colleges out there. No wonder the students are so happy since the admissions office takes good care to ensure that only the ‘fit’ students are admitted.
My son and I are (im)patiently waiting for decisions to come out. I think Grinnell is the one I’m most excited/nervous for him, this wait is torture!
@NascarFedex what is son planning on studying and what was his favorite part of the visit? Have you visited before? We haven’t made it out to Grinnell and we would love to go out and visit their campus.
Cellular biology.
This was our first visit. It’s a very small campus, so you can’t get lost. My son told me he has been to every single building during his stay, including sports facilities. He spent a night in a dorm as well. I don’t think there was one thing that would be a favorite part.
@NascarFedex My son is cell biology as well. Keeping our fingers crossed!
Good luck!
good luck everyone. I’m predicting thursday
Curious, who submitted the optional essay for RD? Does anyone know if it made a difference in past years or is the first year that they’ve done that essay? My son didn’t do it, I’m hopeful that it doesn’t affect his acceptance.
I was accepted mid February (as a RD applicant) with a significant merit scholarship! I loved my campus visit but I’m worried about not having a supportive Jewish community.
@safiastyle I didn’t realize there was a Grinnell specific essay… whoops.
@pcomhssafc It was one that was added to the portal as an option, not on the initial application. I’ve read some early writes didn’t write it but still got in, so just curious if their application was so strong that it didn’t need it, hence the early write, and the other RD would need it to ‘boost’ their appeal. Just curious.
it’s written on the portal that the written supplement has no effect on your application, they just want feedback from their applicants.
@ausman22 bruh it does not say that anywhere lol. Im pretty sure they would have sent it as a survey and not have put it under application forms if it had no weight in admission. Their application fee is free so they probably use it as a way of weeding out the people who are not truly interested
@honestlyidek It said that in the email (idk if they sent it to everyone, might’ve been just people who hadn’t visited campus/gone to events) they sent. It’s true it might actually play a role, but at least they make it sound like it doesn’t.
