Grinnell college what???

i've noticed a lot of threads about grinnell college and i decided to do some research myself...Why is this college so famous i mean it's in iowa (it's DAMM cold and there is nothing there) i know it's a very very welthy college but what's up with grinnell? I'been told that in mississippi they offered free ride for a guy with 28 ACT ( that was the first time i heard about grinnell).

You could say the same about New Hampshire or Maine. It has lots of money and can hire good profs and spens for the best facilities. Who cares about some guy from Miss who got in?? It's a fine school. Yale admitted Bush/Kerry with lower stats and still does for certain families.

"Who cares about some guy from Miss who got in?? " i'm not saying that it's bad..It's marvelous maybe they give me free ride too...But still it's so isolated...Does it have a good recognition in the whole us?

Just yesterday I asked a friend what led him to Grinnell 20-odd years ago. He wanted to be away from home (East Coast) and visited Grinnell, Carleton, Macalester, and another. The visited decided it for him. He was thrilled with the education he got there-- small classess, demanding and in depth.
Grinnell is known for its science programs and opportunities for undergrads to be involved in research.
Location-- I think you're being a little hard on Iowa. Winter in the Northeast can be as cold or colder, and longer. You should keep in mind that every state has charming towns, and that the students around you are what makes the college interesting. A school in Iowa with an engaged student body will be more interesting than a school with an apathetic student body in an appealing location.

Back on greinnell does it accepts students for the spring term?

Yeah applying to Grinnell for financial sake, good college that offer much intl fin. aid. somewhat like macalester, I think job opportunity in large firms of big cities is the major setback. Good for researchers or professors wanna-be. oh did they accept spring term??

Actually, Grinnell does draw large firms from the Midwest, as a friend who majored in Religious Studies went into banking after she graduated, and is now getting her MBA from UChicago--her company is paying for it.

As to Grinnell...I did not expect to like it, but walking on campus, hanging out with students, having coffee with a professor, the laidback attitude, the passion of those connected to the college, and the diversity all made an impression. While the town is not an urban mecca, it has everything a typical kid needs (i.e. 24-hour Walmart, Pizza Hut, Subway, grocery stores, clothiers, bike shop, banks, pharmacy, Dariy Queen, hotels, different restaurants, fast food, CD stores, deli's, magazine shops, etc...all within a few minutes walk. Although a car is nice to have, most of my friends that go/went there reported hardly using their cars.

As for not getting to a city, Grinnell clubs often do trips to the Twin Cities, Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City, on the weekends. For those who stay put, the college usually flies in speakers, bands, etc...and the hall councils provide for entertainment, as each hall has a budget. Grinnell is excellent at providing things to do.

I looked at it because someone suggested it, and it went from low on my list to one of the top two. I liked it better than Carleton, Macalester, Trinity, Vassar, and Reed. I didn't expect that. You might want to visit if you get the chance. And, I'm a city person.

My daughter visited Macalester, Carleton and Grinnell this summer. All three would fit her style, but only Grinnell appealed to her. Right now it is her top choice. We plan to make a visit in the spring when students are there. She loved the town of Grinnell, the campus, and the atmopshere of the academic life as it was presented to her on a tour.

Yes, Grinnell accepts spring transfers.

Haha seems like deloar's daughter's choice are similar to mine... However my top choice is vassar for fencing's sake, i heard Grinnell has a new athletic hall, so is Grinnell keen to have a fencing team?? like competing in NCAA div 3?

Its a good LAC with a decent reputation and a great social scene. Its slong the lines of Oberlin and the like.

Ever heard anybody complaining about the weather at Dartmouth?"

there is also something called "windchill," come to the midwest sometime ;)

According to collegedata for lows in January, Dartmouth: 7.4F, Grinnell: 10.7F, Williams: 15.0F.

They all require gloves and a hat. The rest is minor.

if your main concern is the weather, do not go to grinnell. if your main concern is the name recognition among general public, do not go to grinnell. you are better off at places like cal state, texas a&m or florida state. besides, you only got 26 on the act and grinnell's median is 31, so don't think too much about the school cause even if you are dying to attend you are most likely not going to be accepted anyway.

My Act is 33...i'm writing from atlanta georgia i'm here visiting emory!!!
