Considering that applications close tonight I thought now might be a good time to open this thread! I know this forum isn’t the most active but I’d love to pass time a little faster with fellow applicants. Feel free to drop stats to compare
Heyo!! i applied RD… but does Grinnell consider essays more/the same than just scores themselves?
@jejiang on Grinnell’s common data set ranks both essays and standardized testing as “important” along with extra curriculars and talent. GPA, class rank, recommendations, and rigor of coursework are “very important” and interviews and other smaller details (interest, personality, first gen student) are “considered”
hmm okay well my stats are very average (considering i am an asian male) in the 2100-2200’s range for the old SAT. but i hope my ECs (which are some what related) and my essay push me over :~)
@jejiang I hope it does! My main issue is a lower GPA due to a family death which I wrote about in my essay. I’m hoping solid essays and recommendations can help me
I’m applying RD! It’s my top choice, but probably not financially viable even if I do get in.
@merething did you apply for financial aid? Grinnell meets 100% of need
@Raelte I didn’t! I know my family won’t qualify. Also, I just got the email to submit Grinnell’s optional supplement and I’m not sure what I can get across in 100 words!
@merething oo jeez, well there’s always merit money? And I’ve been thinking about that supplement all day ughhh
I didn’t realize there was a link to submit a supplemental essay in the email they sent out. It’s so late now yikes ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Same here kms except i was stupid enough to start filling it out then forgot :^)))))) still crying
Did any one get Admissions results today? I got mine and I got in but looking at the finaid I think it’s going to be too expensive to go…
I think everyone here is RD, was there an EDII thread? Congrats btw, Grinnell is a full need school so that may work in your favor?
@Realte I applied RD not EDII that’s why I was asking here, to see if anyone got notified “early” so to speak, as I got the email around an hour ago. Is Grinnell really full need? Based on my financial aid package I’d have to pay around 30,000 a year out of pocket, which is only a little less than my dad’s yearly salary.
Really? That’s honesly shocking. Have you filed FAFSA? If so, what is your EFC if you dont mind sharing
OMG!!! I DID!!! They sent me an email that my portal was updated and I got in early through RD (kind of like a likely letter but more official). They’re giving me a full ride @LindsayHarvard and I’m a QuestBridge Finalist. Is it the subtotal thing that you’re looking at?
My EFC was 0. I was asking my counselor and she thinks that either I made a mistake somewhere or the school isn’t done calculating my aid (I didn’t get some IDOC files in until recently). I got a $16,000 founder’s scholarship according to the letter (A nice surprise as I missed the dealine for that too). I think I’m going to contact their office.
Yeah something definitely went wrong if your efc is 0, take a chance to go back through your FAFSA as well and see if there were any mistakes
If you have to pay $30,000 a year you must have received more then the founders scholarship. Did you qualify for subsidized loans and work study? If yes they must have received your information. Maybe you filled out the forms incorrectly. Congrats on getting in!!
@LindsayHarvard I think if it’s the subtotal that you’re looking at, I think that’s the amount of aid you’re getting if I’m understanding everything right bc my subtotal is 30K a semester. I made a post about it so I’ll let you know when I get the info.
