Rejected. Holistic approach? It’s pretty obvious that most of the accepted students have a SAT score of 2200 and above. Well, think that at this point I can forget about the Ivys because they have ‘holistic approach’ policies too right? Congratz to those accepted!
Waitlisted, 29 ACT, 4.0 UW, international applicant. Funny how it all works, since I’ve already been rejected by Gustavus Adolphus and accepted to Ithaca College. Absolutely unpredictable decisions, and I’m just so glad I wasn’t rejected Congrats to all accepted!
I was waitlisted! 2290 SAT, 3.95 UW/4.6 W, top ~3% of class. But I’m also an international student who needs a lot of aid and my ECs are mediocre to average so I’m surprised I wasn’t rejected outright, though I’m disappointed of course. Congratulations to everyone who made it, though!
waitlisted with a 1850 superscored sat. Honestly, my sat is so low, i’m not one bit upset that i didnt get accepted. I honestly cannot complain when my sat is so low haha. on the other hand, i do have some amazing extracurriculars? maybe thats why they didn’t reject me? I actually feel pretty flattered they didnt reject me LOL
International with a 2120 SAT and lots of leadership ECs.
Waitlisted. Oh well.
Another international here. 2160 SAT and 3 800 SAT IIs, rejected. Seems like making the waitlist is quite an achievement.
Accepted w/ Trustee Scholarship
34 ACT
4.02 GPA (UW)
Top 5% of class
D accepted with Trustee scholarship yesterday (no early write, no phone call). Very pleased!
Did visit, did write the additional not-essay, did not interview.
33 ACT, top 4%, solid EC, strong common app essay
Hello @Yashmittal2009, I am his mother. He has a SAT I Composite of 1420 (CR 660; M 760), SAT II of 800,760 and 750, TOEFL IB 109. Rank 1/25 with a final GPA of 9,55 points of a maximum of 10 points, He graduated with honors in June 2014. Diferent academic national awards. EC: As a tennis player he will be recruited in the varsity tennis team of the college, Drama/Model, He is actually doing an internship in a laboratory of renewable energies, he wants to study Physics. We applied for aid but I think there may be a problem of misunderstanding, we are trying to speak with the financial aid department because we cannot afford currently the final amount of 42.000$/year.
How come some accepted students given the Trustee Scholarship did not receive an early notification or call?
Also, is there a Grinnell College Class of 2019 Facebook group? It seems like most every other college has one and a few fake ones, but nothing for Grinnell from my research.
Yes @sammythang1234 there’s a Grinnell college Class of 2019 Facebook group, it is posted in the acceptance letter I think
Accepted (look for my stats in my profile)
If I have been rejected by Grinnell, does that mean I should forget about the Ivys already?
Accepted with the Trustee Scholarship! 2140 SAT, 760 Math II, 690 Bio-E, 4.0 unweighted GPA, 4.8 weighted. Strong ECs, solid essay, interviewed but didn’t visit campus. Pretty excited
Obviously the people on CC are mostly overachievers, but how many people receive the Trustee Scholarship?
@gettinonmynerve, the Ivies get so many “perfect” applicants - perfect test scores, perfect GPAs, perfect ECs, that the chances of anyone getting in are close to nil (Ok, 6% or so). If you do not have perfect or almost perfect stats, and no hooks, it is probably extremely unlikely. Esp. if you are below 25% for SATs.
To get an idea of your chances, take a look at MIT’s accepted student thread. It will be similar for Ivies. Unbelievably talented and qualified students rejected.
This is exactly why my well-qualified D did not apply to a single Ivy, and other than Grinnell, no top-20 LACs. There are many other excellent schools in the top 50 or so, with excellent merit and FA. And, a good student can actually get in!
Did you apply to other LACs or non-Ivies?
Just wondering, but is there any comparable or analogous non-LAC private university to Grinnell? Also what is Grinnell’s reputation as a LAC?
whoa @Caguama you got into Williams but not Grinnell?! That doesn’t make any sense but CONGRATS!!! I was accepted at Grinnell but am really passionate about Williams. Can I ask what your stats are/any hooks you may have for Williams? Thanks!
Grinnell is one of the best liberal arts colleges in the Midwest. It’s certainly a good college. I think similar universities would be Brown, Rice, or Tufts, in terms of campus culture and vibe.
Wait a minute. You got into Grinnell and you are just now wondering about its reputation? Hmmm.
