Actually I applied to Macalester and Grinnell last week. I am an international student from Korea. My major will be probably chemistry, so, I was wondering which one is better - Grinnell or Macalester. And I heard that Grinnell is definitely better than Macalester in chemistry department. Is is true that chem dep. in Mac is bad? I know Carleton, Grinnell, Haverford is better than Mac in sciences, but, I want the college in big city. Grinnell and Carleton colleges are in rural area. Can you compare two colleges in science - Grinnell and Mac? Is it really worse in Mac?
I plan to go to grad after undergraduate. Please!

There is no reason to get worked up about this. Both are excellent schools and you need to pick a place where you can be happy. S visited both. Grinnell has better science facilities, lots of money to support student research research and an excellent reputation among grad schools for sciences-but that doesn't mean that you can't get a solid chem education at Mac. He chose Grinnell, but he wasn't interested in an urban school.

I agree with M's Mom on everything. All of the schools you mention are highly selective, so you can't be sure of being accepted at any of them. My son applied to all of these schools and didn't consider any of them "safe" though he was an excellent aspplicant.
