Grinnell Waitlist 2021

Does anyone know how grinnell does waitlist? Is it ranked?

I can’t speak for Grinnell, but I believe for a school that does “holistic” admissions, it’s typically more idiosyncratic than that. They probably have some people shortlisted in various categories so if, say, their first choice instrumentalists or athletes or debaters or whatnot don’t show, they have some backup options, but there’s no way to know that from the outside.

And since, regardless, there’s no way to know one’s position in the mix, it doesn’t really matter. Either a student wants to put themselves on the list, or not. Odds of getting off are going to be low, regardless.

Here are some general stats: https://www.thoughtco.com/ive-been-waitlisted-what-now-788876

Actually, the Grinnell waitlist is a lot better place to be than at other schools, last year around 25% of students were accepted off the list, compared to 5% or even 0% at other LACs of similar prestige

That varies significantly year-to-year. Until they know this year’s yield, there’s no way to know if it’s a better or worse place to be. Advice for anyone on a waitlist: Accept a spot if you want it, express appropriate interest, but mentally, move on to your known options. Let a future acceptance off the waitlist be a pleasant surprise, not something you’re putting your life on hold for.

Of course, im merely pointing out there is a possibilty and even recent occurrences of high yields off the waitlist

Does anyone know how I can remove myself from the waitlist?

Best to check with Grinnell Admissions on that. They’ll be able to provide a swift and accurate answer.

Has anyone received any new information?

Sorry to say, but none of us will be accepted. Emailed head admissions officer and was told there is currently no intent to accept any waitlist applicants

I am international student. Today I received this email

Thank you for your continued enthusiasm for Grinnell! I have added this information to your file.

Please know that there is currently an over-enrollment of international students in the class of 2021, therefore waitlist acceptances will be unlikely.

Final waitlist decisions are still being considered by our admissions committee and could be announced in early or mid-June.

It sounds like there was an all around higher enrollement than anticipated, my email was similar

Waitlist Update: Rejected. International Student

This year, Grinnell probably admitted none of the waitlisted international students
