Am living in Cerro Vista, wondering where in CA everybody shops? What grocery stores are closeby? Would like to shop at Trader Joe’s but it is 2 hours from campus! (no car)

Hi Liz,

I’m a transfer student also living in Cerro Vista and I also won’t have a car (just a bike). I also would really like to shop at trader Joe’s. Someone told me I could take the bus there. You just wouldn’t be able to carry too many groceries. There’s a target on Los Osos Valley Road (target has a grocery section) but that is kind of far from campus. There’s also a Costco right by Target.

Ya if someone else could give some advice, that would be great! I’m planning on going to the farmer’s market every week and that’s how I will get my produce. But everything else…not sure. Let’s see…Ralph’s is off the 101 by the Madonna Inn, there’s a natural foods off broad st. Other than that, I’m not really sure. I know there’s a market on campus but I’m sure they’re pricey.

I would recommend heading to Albertsons if you can. Your closest option is campus market but that is way too overpriced and the selection is too poor to live on.

Unfortunately that is where a car is pretty much necessary for Cerro, one of your suite-mates will probably have a car and what most of my friends did was just tag along with them.

Yeah Albertson’s is only 30 minutes of a walk, but still you can’t carry very many groceries alone and at that rate I’ll end up shopping at a daily basis. Does Albertson’s have good prices and food and selection? Kona, I am with you, I might just end up taking the bus to Trader Joe’s once in awhile and getting huge loads of food. Maybe I will see you on the bus, I will be the woman with ten grocery bags :P

Astonishingly, all my roommates are internationals, so I don’t think any of them will have cars either!

According to Trader Joe’s website, there’s a store 4.0 miles from campus at 3977 Higuera Street.

My daughter shops at Trader Joe’s on S. Higuera regularly. I’m sure the bus goes that way since it’s a main thoroughfare. There’s a Food4Less right next door to TJ’s. She also shops at Albertson’s which is also right on the bus line on E. Foothill Blvd. Albertson’s is student-friendly and I’ve seen a lot of them shopping whenever I’ve been in there.
