I`m considering these schools. Can anyone give me info about their football and hockey teams. Do you know if the coaches are helpful in the college recruiting process?

At any boarding school most varsity coaches will have connections to a bunch of colleges
Most of them will be NESCAC however I can only speak to soccer. Loomis overall the best sports
School as it plays the best league out of the four, the founders league (NE west 1). Which has
some of the best hockey and lacrosse in the nation. However,be realistic do you think you can
Compete at such a high level, are you looking to play DI or DIII and could you garner the playing
Time in order for you to do play at your desired level in college. Another thing about college
coaches, you should read their Bios if possible that way you could judge what kinda of college
contacts they have, like I said before most coaches will have played NESCAC, but some will played
IVY or DI. I cannot speak to football, but again Loomis better than tabor, MX, and groton. Apparently
PGs dominate founders football but it is pretty good overall. Do academics factor at all into your decision
Or are just looking for the strongest sports school.

The rank of the schools academically
1)Middlesex
1)Groton
3)Loomis
4)Tabor

If you want more schools like loomis with a similar level of athletics
You should look into

NMH
Kent (great football team)
Taft
Berkshire

how is middlesex stronger than groton, academically?

loomis is definitely stronger athletically than middlesex and groton, probably partly due to the fact that it’s waaaay bigger (student body) than msex and groton. don’t know much about tabor, so …

Thanks for your reply. Yes, academics are key. I
m currently attending an all boys school with strong athletics but marginal academics. My choice of Groton, Msex, loomis are motivated by consideration of academics. Tabor is my safety & the campus is very nice.
I
m not considering Exeter, Andover, Choat, Deerfield due to size or location.
The other schools you mentioned are not as strong in the academic dept. I happen to know students at Berk, Taft, NNH.
At this point, I
m honing in on the sports and coaching staff. All coaches are very interested in my level of play. I
m really looking for any character issues or poor coaching overall.(Ex. I read some alarming comment on cc about Taft FB.)
Anything I would not hear on a sugar coated campus tour.
Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Academically, Middlesex and Groton are likely about even- it all depends on what you want out of your education; every school has its strengths and weaknesses. Though I can’t speak for Groton, Middlesex’s English program is, for lack of a better word, wicked strong. We have more teachers in the English department than other departments (I didn’t realize this until I looked at the faculty directory on the website), our writing program is especially strong, and it might be worth pointing out that AP English is the required English class for junior year (senior year is just electives- cool stuff like a Jane Austen class, a mystery class, a fiction class, an essay writing class, etc.). Groton is very strong academically as well, though I’m not sure what its strengths are.

Athletically, Loomis is definitely stronger than the others. Sorry I can’t give you more (our LAX is undefeated though…)

Izzy, thanks. I heard that Loomis also has a very strong English program. I`m leaning toward Loomis as my top choice. I currently have a History teacher who graduated from Msex. He is very demanding about a good essay and a good overall teacher of his subject.
Kind of random here, but thought it helps those who are considering that school too.

looomis does have a great english program. Science as well. It terms of sports, hockey is extremely competative, though I don’t know about boys, the girls varsity team is so much higher level than JV, that people are told that if they don’t make varsity the first year they try out, it’s unlikely that they will at all. football is also very good. though we lost to kent at kent day last year, we beat the top ranked school in the leauge (deerfield?)

divealive
as you can see put them equal as MX as 1) and groton 1)
