Groton's New Financial Aid Program follows path of SPS & Exeter

Groton School / Access, Affordablity, Diversity: New Financial Aid Program in 2008

This is great news and will further enrich the Boarding School experience at Groton. I think the reputation of all Boarding Schools will be enhanced - now BS is not just for the privileged.

I wonder if the schools are going to peg the cut off amount (now 75K) to inflation some way, so the opportunities won't be eroded over time.

It appears Deerfield is in this category as well.

Reading through the financial aid section of their web site, they offer full need scholarships to families with income under $80K.

Here's the relevant blurb:

Financial Aid Scholarships :: Deerfield Academy :: an independent, coeducational boarding high school

" Full Need Scholarships
In 2007-2008 over 20% of our financial aid recipients receive full need scholarships. These full need scholarships include at least 99% of tuition coverage as well as other forms of assistance. These can include coverage for laptop and school book purchases, travel allowances, stipends for school supplies, music and dance lessons and other school related events and trips. Typically, students who receive full need scholarships come from families with incomes under $80,000 per year and with few additional assets. "

Deerfield has offered that for several years. They have simply chosen not to make a big splashy announcement about it.
