Ground Control To *Minor* Tom...

What should I minor in? I'm going to be a philosophy major, but I want some class diversity, marketable qualities, etc.

I'm choosing between: economics, political science, and psychology

Something that could actually get me a job would be nice :)

oh yeah,

Out of those three, Econ would be the one which would make you more marketable. Not sure what you want to do with your life but things having to do with numbers (Hard Sciences, Finance, Marketing, and Econ) all tend to pay more and be in higher demand.

This is coming from a Political Science Major based in DC.

minor in whatever you feel like…minors are usually 4-6 classes in a subject, it doesn’t mean much on a resume. employers usually don’t care what you minored in; often they won’t care about your major either. pol sci complements a philosophy major very well though. a handful of econ classes isn’t going to have much effect on your job prospects or salary…AU is right that it’s the most marketable/practical of those subjects though.

I’m hoping to get into (and be able to afford) law school, but I realize I need a backup plan, so here we are :)

Edit: I wonder how difficult it would be to double major after transferring from a cc… ?

Double Edit, Yo: This one’s better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFks9A9TCF0&feature=related

Can You Hear Me Major Tom? Can You Hear Me Major Tom? Can You Hear Me Major Tom?

Sorry, late night thing…

Double major in econ

“Edit: I wonder how difficult it would be to double major after transferring from a cc… ?”

Damn hard if significant overlap isn’t allowed and you want to graduate in four years. I don’t even think I can fit in a minor.

Econ/Business minor.

Since Econ in the COAS at most schools it would probably be easier.

Somehow I feel like Phil/Math would be a good combo, but of those three Econ is probably your best choice, but only because it’s mathy.

yeah you should roll with the math crew. math is way cooler than any of those jabroni subjects

I recommend that you major in Economics and minor in philosophy instead. That will make you far more marketable compared to having it the other way around.

Thanks, but I love philosophy too much not to major in it :)
