Group Studying AP Bio

Hello everyone, me and a few peers are interested in studying AP Bio in a small group (~5 people) due to our school not having it. We hear that it's a difficult course even with a teacher but we are up to the challenge. I have a couple questions and it would be great if I could get some answers.

1) What would be the best way to go about getting the materials? I saw that there are cheap, outdated textbooks on Ebay (Campbell 5th edition) and one idea is to study from those in conjunction with CliffsNotes. Another idea is to buy one current textbook so we could all study from the ebook. The lab materials are what I'm most worried about; should I just try to buy them from a nearby school or get them myself?

2) I've heard that some AP bioers are able to take the AP environmental science exam and pass it just from Bio and possibly a bit of preparation on the side. Is this the case?

Advice that does not pertain to the above questions is very welcome. Thanks in advance!
