This post is primarily directed at the KP mids on the board, but anyone is free to help me out. I am planning my NJROTC Unit's spring trip. This is the 1st year we have former cadets at all three of the East Coast Service Academies (WP, KP and USNA). We are planning a early spring trip, Late March, early April and hope to hit WP, then to KP and USNA. It will be a five day trip and we think it will be a big draw. The questions I have are (1) Have you seen groups such as this on the campus before, is there a precedent at KP (2) from the perspective of a HS Cadet, is there much to see at KP and any chance for fun (vessels, boats, drill team exhibitons etc) (3) Any idea about berthing onboard the school for 45 or so kids. (4) is spring a good time for a trip like this (mid events, weather etc). (5) Any other comments or ideas. I understand I have to go thru the school to arrange this, but I am just doing some primary scouting. Thanks for any help or suggestions

All three East Coast service academies? Hmmm.....

Sorry Boss, I miss-spoke. All three with out comming up to the great state of CT and the wonderful and well thought of US Coast Guard Academy! Not a slight, I promise!!!

Ha ha no offense taken...:D

PHSNSI, my son was a veteran of college visits with a large number of students. However, he visited Kings Point on his own and not as part of a group and was very impressed, even though there were no "fun" or special events. The weather was very hot on the first visit in August and bone-chilling cold for the second visit, an overnight, in late March, but he still liked it. I think what makes the best impression is meeting the midshipmen themselves. They don't suger coat anything, but their enthusiasm is infectious. I am not sure whether this would even apply to your visit , but one event held annually on a weekend in the spring for scouts gives you some idea of activities that visiting students consider "fun."
Way back when I visited USNA as part of my school group, we were just given a plain vanilla tour with no overnight and no fun or special activities, but I was able to form fairly accurate impressions and ended up graduating from there.

By the way, I hope you can fit USCGA into your itinerary! It also has a nice campus and is close by.

My son's AFJROTC group stayed onboard SUNY Maritime's ship, the Empire State, when they marched in the St. Patrick's Day parade. Not the greatest accommodations, but memorable!

PHSNSI, very very good idea. You're a true sport for thinking of arranging a trip like this. I know USMMA hosted some boy scout events where they do some really big things during the visit. Prayerfulmom can probably say more about that. I believe they took a Coast Guard cutter out for a spin, ect. I know my kid took some NJ kids around on a day tour one time. USMMA doesn't shy away from PR so I feel sure they'll work with you.

Just like Weski's son's trip to Suny with AJROTC, if ya ever want to come down Charleston way, give a call. I can help. = The USS Yorktown does overnight/week trips as well for the kids. Such great learning experiences for these kids!

If I come down to Charleston can you get me accomodayshuns? HA HA HAHA
:D

Consider contacting public affairs office to see if anyhting can be arranged.
