Grouping EC Activities on CommonApp?

Hello CC,

I am pretty sure this might not b common problem for the ComonApp, but I have way more than 10 activities and I was wondering whether I should group my activities under the categories given by Common App. I understand that I am supposed to list the 10 most important activities, but should I list as many activities as I can by grouping them in effort to display all my cards and facets? My college counselor says that I should do that and it would be a good shot. However, I am worried that I am going to come off as to desperate and unprofessional to my colleges for not strictly following the rules. If I only list my 10 activities without grouping them, I would leave about 50% of the activities that I have participated for more than 2 years. I am not sure what to do, so I am asking you guys for advice and tips.

Thank you.

It depends on what the activities are and how related they are. If, for example, one is math club competitions and one is tutoring math through the math club, you could reasonably group them. If one is speech and debate and one is tennis, not so much. Focus on the 10 MOST important to you - you want to convey focus, not resume fodder.
