ffs i’m male, 5’2" and almost 18

my mom is 5’ 7’‘, dad is 5’ 9’‘, I’m 6’ 3’'

Basically, I think the secret to growing is simply sleeping more. You grow when you sleep, and back in middle school when I did most of my growing I slept like 10 hours every day.

^Wow…

I’m 6’2. :)

My dad is 5’11 and my mom is 5’2.

I’ve never heard of that “spine shrinking while awake” fact before?
Makes me want to sleep insane amounts.

The doctor says I should still be growing, although he rejected my request to get an x-ray of my epiphyseal plates to check for continued growth :/

haha, well if your doctor says you are still growing, then I wouldn’t worry about it:)

^^^^^Wow! You’re only one inch shorter than me though haha. It’s not too bad:)

Myth. I’m 5’3 1/2. Ever since I could remember I’ve been taking naps after school. I used to drink milk all the time as well. IMO, it’s just a fluke in the system.

Height is primarily determined by genetics, but oftentimes the “genetics” predictions and whatnot has an error range or whatever it’s called - usually a couple inches, so there’s no formula, but I think the classic - eating a nutritious diet (high protein, calcium, vitamin, minerals, etc), exercising, sleeping well, etc…might maximize your potential.

I’ve had quite a bit of late bloomers in my family, and I am naturally one also. Mother’s 5’3, dad’s 5’10, I’m currently 5’11.5ish (16 years old), and still growing.

As for weight training, it’s not a good idea before 14/15 ish until your bones harden more or something like that; but as long as you follow proper procedure, form, and the right weight, it shouldn’t affect growth if you’re like 16 or something.

Also coffee/soda and stuff like that which stunts growth, eh, I find that genetics works a lot in this case - I’ve seen plenty smoke, drink, and stuff like that before 18 and still end up like 6’2. Not a big deal IMO.

And the “short asians” thing is the worst myth about height i’ve ever seen so far - maybe adults like aged 40-50, yes, the younger generation I’ve never seen an asian guy under 5’8, lots that are in the 5’10-6’2 range.

Being tall is overrated. I like being 5’ 9" because basically everything is designed for someone of my height. I never have to duck or squeeze in. I also never have to stand on my toes. Medium sized t-shirts usually fit, I don’t get back problems like big guys…it’s great.

That’s ok, at least you passed your dad up! And weird, our families are almost the same, my mom’s 5’3" and dad’s 5’6" and I’m 5’1.5" and I’m done growing lol. And idk how much logic there is to this, but it seems to make somewhat sense, but I heard swimming can lengthen your body.

drinking milk doesn’t work. i’m an inch taller than my parents and i’ve had 2 glasses a day for the past 9 years (give or take a few days) i’m 5’5

Eh to be honest I don’t think any of those dietary tricks work much.

Like my mother fed me two glasses to milk every day…and still does…thinking I might grow. I didn’t do much for me. I’m stuck at 5’ 3’’ with both parents being taller than me.

And like many posters have explained it’s primarily genetic…with some enviromental factors. But there are no “gimmicks” to say to getting taller. Just mantain a healthy diet and whatnot…I hopefully you’ll grow a bit more.

This appears to be good relevant article that you can skim: [How much of human height is genetic and how much is due to nutrition?: Scientific American](How much of human height is genetic and how much is due to nutrition? | Scientific American)

It attests about 60-80% genetics and 20-40% environmental the main factor being nutritional. It may shed some light on what you’re trying to deterimine.

I think that in adolescent years getting enough diet, exercise, and sleep can help growth, but I think height is largely determined by genetics.

Ah, looks like I’m shorter than everyone on here…many years ago my doctor predicted I’d hit 5’1", but I stopped growing when I was 11 and will always be a bit under five feet. I’m shorter than both my parents, although some aunts are around my height.

As for the OP, 5’6" isn’t that bad. I have no clue about your age so maybe there’s still hope for you.

^Wow, same here. I’m shorter than both of my parents. I consider myself 5’3’’ though the doctor says I’m 5’1’‘. I refuse to believe that though, mainly because when I compare myself to people who are 5’4’', I’m not much shorter haha. Anyway, like I’ve mentioned before, I believe your height is relevant to genetics, but maybe you will still grow a little:) Just continue to eat healthy, exercise, and sleep and you will be fine.

lol i could’ve sworn we talked about this before…oh wait that was in ccislulz lol. oh i don’t think there’s really a way to grow taller, but i hear some excercises to help. so stretching yourself may work…i guess?

A lot of people grow in college OP, so ask your parents when they finished growing and maybe there is still hope

You could become an astronaut and grow 6 inches in space. lol.
