Your fine… don’t make yourself crazy over it. It’s always nice to get in, but it’s not your life… Your goal is medical school if i am right from your posts… not columbia

holy ****, it lets me log in to the financial aid section. What should I make of this? I can’t contain the excitement…

Good sign, but I wouldn’t take it as gospel. :)

Your in! Congradulations!

Thanks guys; still waiting for the phone call or email, but it’s a big relief.

congrats all.

whats really funny//kinda cool is actually the rate at which prospectful applicants who post on this website are admitted…You hardly hear anyone claim to be rejected. A while ago, I think there was even a thread started along the lines of “If you’re worried about acceptance, you’re already in.”

Now I don’t know if thats a greater testament to the collective quality of College confidential posters–we’re neurotic and qualified–or the over estimation of admission difficulty. I would imagine its the former, because GS does state acceptance rates to be at~23%. In any case, I guess it’s true–if you’re a neurotic mess who frequents this site daily, you have a higher chance of acceptance lol.

Edit: Or some people can lie I doubt it tho.

Congrats to those who were accepted!! Would some of the newly admitted students please post what your stats were upon applying… I’m applying for fall 2012 with a 3.97 gpa, 7 honors at Nassau Community College, 1200 on SAT (600, 600) (Bad high school experience…), and EC in a drug free organization and American Cancer Society. My story is unique, to say the least and I am confident that my writing skills will be appropriately displayed in my essay. Also, can some of you shed some insight on how you plan on paying this extremely expensive tuition. Thanks a lot and hopefully I will be attending Columbia with you guys enxt year. Grats again!

Tenuously, pending official acceptance, my stats:

4.0 @ community college -22 completed credits, 9 more in progress
HS record was regrettable to say the least; I failed many classes due to attendance issues and completed both junior and senior year in 12th grade.
SATs - a very unremarkable 1770/2400 although writing portion was an 11/12…
Work history - an eclectic assemblage of jobs including mortgage loan officer for 1.5 years, currently salesperson in electronic retail

Tuition will be paid through combinations of (hopefully) generous GS & phi theta kappa scholarships. And likely, the remaining 50% will be funded by federal & private loans…

Hi There,

I’m a new member. I’ve applied to Columbia School fo General Studies for the Spring 2012.
I’m not as far along in the process as you all are though… My file still needs the two recommendations from my recommenders… (Who seem to be taking forever!! to just click a link and send their part in.) Anyways is it possible that admissions will start to read my file even though my recommendations aren’t in yet?

Honestly, I’m getting really annoyed. 8 days since my interview. 2 days since I was able to log on to financial aid. Still no call or email…So I call the school and ask my status–without even asking me my name, I am told I’m still “under review” and “notification is done by mail.”

I too got in for the spring 2012. I’m still waiting to hear about financial packages, as I’m an international student.

Associate degree in Maths& Biology 3.75, some part-time foreign language courses, volunteer teacher.
SAT Bio M 710, Chem 700, Phy 630, ACT Composite 27.

Well folks, I’m in. Came home to a fedex package whew.

Congrats iggs, wonderful news. It sucks that being able to log into the FA site a couple days ago ruined the surprise for you a tad, but go out and celebrate nonetheless!

congratulationsss to lthose who got it!! I am begining the waiting… … … ;)

thanks. lol actually for me logging on to FA was a relief because it partially mitigated my anxiety. Its actually a huge relief and probably my first peaceful moment in over a month. Good luck guys.

Are there anymore GS Spring 2012 applicants out there, waiting??
How are you passing the waiting time? Tell me your secrets!!!

I found a Financial Aid caluculator that tells me how much I am expected to contribute to my tuition. How accurate is this calculator?

Theres also a link on the calculator page that tells me to click through if I’m applying to GS- but that link doesn’t work… Why does GS have it’s own link on the Financial Aid calculator? Is it more expensive somehow? Or do they have different types of aid available for GS ppl?

Financial Aid for Columbia College is VERY different than for GS. At GS you’ll get… not much. Make an appointment to talk to the financial aid staff when/if you get in. Skip Bailey, the director, is amazing and will explain it all in detail (over the phone, if you can’t meet in person).

@ Premed. I’m also applied regular action. I don’t hold much hope for acceptance realistically speaking, but that didn’t stop me from giving the application process everything I’ve got! It would be absolutely awesome to get in!! With that said, I guess you should step back for a moment and realize that life moves along whether you want it to or not.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: If you can’t get into Columbia, it won’t be the end of the world. You will meet great people no matter where you go. You just gotta make the most of your surroundings and take advantage of all the resources at your disposal!

I know I’m battling the admissions anxiety tunnel vision myself but when you put everything into perspective, hopefully you have grander aspirations than getting into a great school… try to focus on those instead… ;)
