Does anyone know the classes you are required to take in GSP? For which, if any, is there any flexibility?

You will find out everything you need to know when you get here and attend orientation during welcome week. The information all comes in dribs and drabs, but you'll know it when you need to.

You'll take:

Freshman Year--

1st Semester:
Writing I
Cultural Foundations I (Salemi is great)
Social Foundations I
History of the Universe or another science or a cultures class

(You can also take a two credit creative writing, music, dance, or voice class)

2nd Semester:

Writing II
Cult. Foundations II
Social Foundations II
History of the Universe or another science or a cultures class
(whatever you didn't take first semester)

Sophomore year:

1st semester:
Cultural or Social Topics Class
(Really awesome topics like "Visions of Hell" or "Postmodern Poetry" or "Evil")
+ 3 electives

2nd Semester:
Cultural or Social topics class (whichever you didn't take last semester)
+ 3 electives

Tips:

If you are going anywhere besides Gallatin after gsp, get History of the Universe out of the way. science gsp classes now count as 6 credits and you have to take History of the Universe if you are going into cas....etc. (I know you don't have to take it for gallatin).

For CAS, which is where most gspers head, you will need to take 4 semesters of a language, and two sciences (one must be history of the universe)...so as soon as they announce the date of the language placement test in the fall, take it and see how many semesters you'll have to take.

--When you are a sophomore, you will take the 2nd science class, the language classes, etc...but you have the option of taking them first year (some flexibility) and then taking both sciences and your cultures class your second year. During sophomore year, you'll use those electives for the intro classes to your major.

---GSP is pretty great, so don't fret about it.

---Also, as soon as you get your nyu email, go to the academics tab and go to the bottom to the gsp virtual commons link, it is a really cool gsp site.

anymore questions--just ask.
