GT Economics

Does anybody know if GT's Economics program is any good? I'm trying to decide if I should transfer to UGA or GT, or just stay at GaState.

Thank you.

Tech or UGA over State for sure. Between Tech and UGA, I’d say there’s no clear choice. The two schools have very different cultures so that decision is going to depend a lot on what you’re looking to get out of your education.

Tech has an excellent economics program, but you may want to consider business as it will provide more career opportunities (coming from either UGA or Tech). That being said, I am still minoring in economics at Tech, so if you have any questions, let me know.

I have a few questions.

  1. After graduation, what kind of jobs do Econ majors get (specifically GT graduates)?
Do they get multiple job offers (like engineering majors)?

What are the upper-level Econ courses like? What is an economist’s job like?
Because I did pretty well in macro-economics and global economy, and it was really interesting to me. But i’m not sure if that is enough reason for me to pursue economics.

Hey CollegeBoyToy,

First of all Georgia Tech’s program is actually REALLY great. Econ majors have their own career fair every semester, where companies from all over the country and all over the world recruit our econ graduates (that is excluding numerous virtual career fairs and the large one for all majors every semester). Also, there are unlimited resources to help you look and acquire a job.

Secondly, the upper level courses are very analytically based. They test your ability to detect patterns, recognize trends, and make predictions.
As far as jobs go, there are two routes you can take: the policy or the math.
Economists from Tech usually become major analysts for corporations, stockbrokers, investment bankers, financial advisers, and etc. Very mathematically inclined.
Also, becoming involved in forming economic policy for NGOs, government agencies, corporations, using econ strategy to develop other economies, start businesses, and expand trade. There are several routes you can take depending on your interest, and Tech does a wonderful job of catering to each student.

not good at all but I don’t think UGA has a great Econ school
