I recently went to a GA Tech Campus Tour.

They basically said that they looked at all of the aspects (GPA, SAT/ACT, Leadership and Activities, and your essay) and really there is no designated weight. You want to be competitive in each of the areas… so having all of those other things rather high, but a rather low ACT does hurt your chances a bit. Honestly, most colleges really don’t even care what you score on your AP exam… that’s a technicality for AFTER you are admitted, so that you can possibly receive credit. At the tour, they said that they wanted to see the rigor of your courses and your results/grades.

Another major word of caution: they don’t look at JUST the composite score for the ACT! They said that they take the Math, Reading, and Writing sections (from the ACT) and then convert it into an “SAT score”. So if your scores are rather low in those areas, it may be a problem. I’d suggest one more ACT, or maybe even an SAT if you can.

Another thing: when you apply, they don’t care what you major in. You are accepted to GA Tech (the Institute) and then once accepted you choose your major. So it is quite possible that all of the students who apply say they want to apply to one major… but they don’t care.

Hope this helps… and I just went to their info session, so feel free to ask any more questions. From what it looks like, your are in a very good position to get in. A better ACT/SAT score would greatly help though.

Good luck!
