I am a member of the honors program. I had very similar statistics to you, and was accepted. The honors program is extremely strange in terms of what they are looking for. I will relay to you what they told us at our orientation lunch: The honors program is not particularly interested in students with insanely high GPAs or SAT’s. They are looking for students with passion in something, be it music, some civic responsibility, research, really anything. They want students who are going to bring something new and different to the table.

I know, pretty much every college says that kind of stuff, but there really is no magic recipe. Your essay is going to be the determining factor in showing them how much passion you have because there is no interview component or seperate application.

How does one apply to the Honors program? The ‘Apply Here’ link takes to the buzzport, but nothing is there regarding Honors application.

Follow the link that is printed on a pamphlet or other part of your admissions packet and click the little check box.

Good Luck!

It is very strange. They look for people who are passionate in something (usually art or music) and have potential to be the leaders of the Institute and go out and make things happen. As a member of the honors program, even though I can’t give you a prediction (none of us completely understand the process they use to chose who makes it and who doesn’t) I can tell you that you should go for it even if you don’t think you will get in. Besides the cool special topics classes that are only available to honors and the cool events (interesting and a lot of times there’s really good free food) are the people you will get to live with your first year at GT. Some of my best memories and friends are from random get togethers with people in Field (the honors dorm) and talking well into the night.

Also, for you guys its a great way to, in a way, beat the ratio. Each incoming class in honors is about 50/50 and the girls are usually very cool people to get to know.
