Just wondering.. but are transfers required to live on campus their first year?

I think we are but I'm not 100% sure. Hopefully some old GT's see this and can give us their almighty transfer wisdom, lol.

You aren't required to live on campus....but I recommend you do.

Dewdrop did you get my last pm?

hah...yeah....I've just been sucking at life when it comes to getting back to them....I have huge pile of transfers wanting to know their chances :-)

oh okay lol. i can deff relate

Transfers do not have to live on campus but most (~90%+) do. This is for obvious reasons. you are new and need to find a niche in the cornell community- this is alleviated by having other transfers and 'regular' students around.

Of course, there are exceptions. As a transfer I have always had to live off campus as I have pets.

Yeah, the main reason I was considering living off campus was because I really wanted to bring my dog with me. Living in a dorm definitely does appeal to me though for the whole meeting people aspect.. Kind of a quandary. Worst comes to worst I could live with not having my dog another year, though I miss him terribly. Hmm.. What are the best places to live off campus? I assume it'll be hard to get someplace good at this point in time, as I know a lot of my friends at my college have already signed for the places they're living next year. And as for on campus housing, what is the townhouse community like in Cornell? I know people say its far from classes + the people are sometimes antisocial, but I'm assuming pets are allowed there? Or are they not? Because the townhouses are technically on campus, and if they allowed pets, that would be a nice compromise!

Transfers are not required to live on-campus, but if they do, they are required to live in West Campus.

I'm not sure where you heard this info...but it's incorrect. Most transfers live on West/Collegetown. However...since the loss of the Transfer Center in 2007, transfers have spread around campus. There is a sizeable contingent of transfers who entered in the fall and are living on North Campus in the Townhouses because there was no housing left on West/Collegetown.

Cindy: dogs are not allowed in the Townhouses. As far as I remember....fish are the only permissible animals. Ecology House allows all animals but cats and dogs.

Ah I apologize. I read the page incorrectly. The page said that it was West or Collegetown.

Is west campus Cascadilla? It was pretty far away but I really liked that building

Cascadilla is in Collegetown.

ohh okay. then it's becker im thinking of.

haha cindy.. that isn't a quandary... that's a no brainer! life is much better with your best canine companion around. i probably would be found at the bottom of the gorge if i didn't have my dog and cats here w/ me

Haha you're so right BlueDevil! Argh... thats frustrating the townhouses don't allow pets either! Ah well, I guess I'm probably going to try looking for some off campus housing then..
