GT transfer Help!

Hello! I’m a student that just graduated high school and will be attending VCU in the fall! I really want to transfer to GT next year, especially that I want to do Aerospace Engineering! I had a couple questions regarding transfer admissions! I scored a 1300/1600 on the SAT which is lower than Tech’s average and have a high school GPA of 4.0 (W) and 3.84 (UW)! (I spent the first two years of HS out of the US and when I came back in the middle of junior year they wouldn’t let me take any AP or Honors Classes, so I had to wait till senior year). I wanted to ask if I should retake the SAT or take the ACT again or would having a 4.0 college GPA the first year (that’s my plan) be more valuable in the transfer process than the SAT!

Once you’ve graduated from high school you cannot take the SAT again (I believe the College Board won’t even let you register for it). Tech (and any other school) will be much less interested in your high school test scores than in your commitment to achievement in rigorous and challenging classes. Forget about the SAT. Take challenging classes and ace them. Get involved in meaningful activities. That’s what they want to see.

Whoops, coming back to say I was wrong on this – you can’t take AP exams after high school, but you CAN take the SAT again. I was confused. So, I guess you can take the test again, but I still wouldn’t. Focus on your grades.

@yankeeinGA thank you! So what would be considered a challenging and rigorous course?

There’s a couple different ways to look at this, @Mada01 – on the one hand, you can do Honors at VCU (if that’s an option), which makes even core classes more challenging, usually. On the other hand, particularly if you want to be an aero engineer, they want to see you taking higher order maths and science classes, not just entry-level random stuff. Does that make sense? Sounds like you’ll do fine.
