(i'm on my mom's account)
I want to major in neuroscience.. GT doesn't have the major, Miami does..
Plus there's all the negatives about GT like bad dorms, professors, less social life, etc...
But there's a big side of me thats caught up in the names... GT sounds more impressive and I feel like it will be taken more seriously when applying for grad schools...

advice?

I have the same exact problem, but I'm leaning more toward Miami now primarily because of their strong science (Bio) program. Of course, GTech is highly ranked and all, but in our case (I'm thinking of neuroscience too) what would really matter is which school excels in our area. I asked around and what most of them say is that GT is mostly known as an engineering school, which is why they stand out so much. I could be wrong, but that's just what most people have said so far.

And as for the graduate school factor, Miami seems better as well because even though GT has higher prestige, they are not known for neuroscience, so that could potentially hurt us a bit.

yay for people with the same dilemma as me!

If GT doesn't have your major, why do you want to go? It's a very good engineering school, but I don't think too many people go there for things like you're talking about. The closest thing I can think of is Biomedical Engineering (which is arguably in the top few programs in the nation). Realistically, if you want to go to grad school and do neuroscience, any tangentially-related undergrad major will get you there.

my problem is that ga tech doesn't have a 5 year architecture program, but miami does :(

so even though ga tech is probably a better school i think i'm leaning towards miami.
