GT Wait list

GP i really hope you’re right… but another thing is if they’re down on a budget crisis wouldnt it be more profitable to have more internationals and OOS students who can bring in the bucks?

is there any reason why i should believe there is any kind of hope for me - a waitlister!!! so far, the stats of others who were waitlisted are far better than mine and i can’t believe they were not accepted outright. to be honest, i’m somewhat pleasantly surprised that i wasn’t flat out rejected. partially proved u wrong gp:)…the impossible is possible!!!

Yes. But Georgia residents would march to the Capital Building with pitchforks if Tech had a policy of “cutting 25% of incoming freshman, primarily in-state applicants”. Instead, Tech would use it’s existing policies but just accept less students.

I really don’t think that situation will occur, though.

I’m glad you weren’t flat out rejected. Maybe I calculated your GPA incorrectly.

hmm GP that explains… Could you post here if you hear of any changes to that system, which can cheer us all up a bit  … I really hope I get off the waitlist… by the way would it hurt my chances a lot if recent grades haven’t been filled with As?

gp, i dont think u did, but what probably helped me was that i consistently stressed how interested i was in pursuing science/engineering at tech including sending a letter to them of a recent science-related accomplishment…or they made a mistake:)

would you have to assumed that you’re waitlisted for the major you applied for? I know that in the message it didn’t tell me anything about majors.

Good luck to everyone on the wait list here!

“would you have to assumed that you’re waitlisted for the major you applied for? I know that in the message it didn’t tell me anything about majors.”

Your intended major is not a factor in admissions. You are NOT wait-listed for a specific major, but for the university.

I was waitlisted too, and Tech was my safety school. i did NOT expect this…stupid competition.

So then aren’t you basically risking it when you’re accepting the waiting list? I applied for engineering and was waitlisted. I would not want to go to GT undeclared, personally.

Ga Tech has very liberal policy regarding change major. You got one free change major below 60 credits. Otherwise, there is pretty low minimum GPA. Ga Tech is one of fewest schools that you can change from College Of Management to College of Engineering or vice verse with minimum effort. In most other schools such as Berkeley or UCLA, it is almost impossible to transfer among colleges.

Forget GT, when you forgot it, it will send an acceptance letter to you!!

I just got an email back from the office of admissions and they said that if you are waitlisted and you end up getting accepted bc a spot opens up, you’ll be accepted based on the major on your application.

And remember: between the time you’re accepted and your first class, you can change your major to any other major with a simple phone call. Even after you start classes at Tech, you can change from any major to any other major with a one page form that doesn’t need any approval (the first time, as long as you have less than 60 hours).

In your haste to prove your assumptions correct, I think you misread and misunderstood the email. This does NOT mean that your major matters for admissions decisions. A spot means a spot at the university, not a spot in an individual department. What that email means is that when you are accepted to the university you are accepted as a student for the major you listed, NOT that you were accepted because there was a spot in your listed major. Notice how the email specifically stated “if you are accepted” before it mentioned anything about a major. Tech tries to enroll about 2650 students each year. It does not have set quotas for individual departments, and this is clearly evident as the size of departments changes from year to year rather than remaining constant. Let me reiterate this for the umpteenth time now. Your major does NOT matter for admission to the university.

Well here’s the whole email…

“You are on the Wait List for admission, if taken off the Wait List you would be brought in to the major you indicated on your application. On May 1st we will know if there are spots available in our fall class and how many. Then we will begin to invite students to come off the Wait List. In the mean time I encourage you to place a deposit with another school of your choice. Make sure to speak with that school about what you will need to do if you decide not to attend their institution. Thank you for your interest and your patience.”

I was only concerned about the major bc I don’t want to end up being accepting and being stuck in undeclared instead of engineering. This happened to be for another college. I was accepted, but for undeclared/general studies.

do ppl who are accepted from waitlist get financial aids ?

Yes, if accepted, it will be for what you indicated. As has been said, you would also then have the option of changing to any other major if you so chose.

Those accepted off the wait list will receive a financial aid offer, but it may not be as generous as aid given to those accepted through regular and early admissions.

do wait listed students have to send any transcripts right now or is it after April 15th?
