GTech 2023 RD - Waitlist

Hello!

I’m an international student from Canada who got waitlisted at GTech.
I was wondering my chances of getting admitted now that I’m waitlisted

Thanks

I also got waitlisted as well.
I have a math teacher who’s husband works at GT. she said that GT was relatively conservative with the admission process this year compared to the past years, so there might be a higher acceptance rate from the GT waitlist. Also, it depends on your major

Me too. I’m from Taiwan, and seems like we shouldn’t get hopes up for this waitlist thing. The only chance is that those admitted also got into other tech schools like MIT or Caltech, or otherwise it’ll be not likely for our turn.

Collegedata.com has some acceptance and waitlists numbers, but I am not sure how old they are. From that year they have 21 were accepted from the waitlist.

Hi! Can someone please explain to me what happens after I accept being on the waitlist? I’m an international student and I don’t understand how the process goes.

@nadagehad01 It simply means that you will be in the pool of candidates considered should Georgia Tech decide to fill remaining slots in the class with applicants from the wait list. Chances are that very few, if any, people will be accepted off the wait list. If you are admitted, you can then decide whether to accept or not, just like if you had gotten in through regular decision. Accepting a spot on the wait list does not obligate you to attend Tech if you are later accepted; you’re merely letting Tech know that you are still interested should a spot become available.

Great that explains a lot! But how can I accept another university’s offer by may 1st when I’m not sure whether I’m going to that university or Georgia tech? I read that Georgia Tech will have everything regarding the waitlist settled down around June 1st, which is after the national deadline of replying to all universities.Do I just give up on the $250?

Yes, if you are offered a spot, it will most likely be after May 1st and you would forfeit any deposit you’ve made to another university.

Okay thank you for your reply

As far as waitlist goes, Ga Tech apparently over enrolled last year so accepted around 1000 fewer students this year. It seems like at least some will be coming off the waitlist but from what I hear the waitlist is generally used to fill institutional needs . . . The Ga Tech admissions blog has a post addressing this issue

Are any of you sending letters of continued interest?

Their blog https://pwp.gatech.edu/admission-blog/2019/03/06/the-waitlist-still-sucks/ says Don’t stalk the admission office.

My son just got off the wait list today.

I just got into GT today. I have 2 days to decide. I am not sure what to do because I thought I had already decided on a school and now I’m conflicted.

My daughter got off the waitlist today. She is going to decline. She already decided on another school and I doubt very much G Tech would match the financial aid the other university gave her. If they would have accepted her from the beginning, it could have been another story. Also, I simply cannot fly to see Georgia Tech this week and I would not send her to a university she have not seen. She is going to be happy at the other university.

@kjoneno Accepting it now is not a commitment. And there is no conflict if you commit to tech, you will only lose the enrollment deposit you made to the other school.

Did they admit for fall or summer?

they offered my daughter fall admission.

Did you guys get an email or a call?

Also are you guys in state or out of state?
