They appear out of state.
My guess is in state students would be more likely to be offered the summer session as it tends to be easier for them to switch gears.
It appears that they sent the majority of acceptances from the waitlist yesterday
Anyway I’m an international so I shouldn’t keep my hopes high
Are the admitted people from the waitlist all OOS? I have not seen a person instate so far
How many students were admitted from the waitlist?
my son got admitted to summer session from wait-list couple of days ago.
I am an International student and I got admitted from waitlist in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering! Will prolly be going to the Tech even though I paid my deposit to UBC!!
@Sapph19 did you get it today? And which country are you from?
I’m confused because Tech said they would contact people after May 1st.
I was just accepted off the waitlist to Georgia Tech today but have already paid my deposit to NC State and am unsure what to do. Does anyone know if I am accepted into the major I applied for? I got into NC State for Biomedical Engineering and want to make sure I actually got into Tech for engineering as well.
If you applied then yes.
Hey @KatieB23 , I know for a fact that for NC State you actually do need to apply again to get into their Biomedical Engineering department usually around second semester freshman year. The application takes grades for certain courses and a short essay into consideration. It’s no sweat though.
I also got off the GT waitlist today, but I’m super bummed that I won’t be accepting it (doesn’t make sense but I like the school I committed to?).
Are any in state people getting off the waitlist?
Morning tweet… looks like no more waitlist.
“Quick look at our new first year class: 3100 students. 76 nations, 48 states (0 for Dakotas), 94 GA counties. 42% women, 52% Engineering.”
3100 means an offer yield of 44%.
Usually 100 to 200 don’t show up in the fall. For one reason or another, other waitlists, finances, family issues, medical… this is called the “summer melt”. So the incoming class will be around 2900.
@Greymeer Those are preliminary numbers and the wait list is not closed yet. Students still on the wait list will be informed when the list is closed, typically in mid to late May.
@Greymeer Isn’t that a little small for Georgia Tech? Doesn’t Georgia tech usually have like 3800 students? I was just looking at the number of undergraduate students they have (15573 or something) and divided it by 4…
@pennswood 3800? No, 2800 to 2900 is the normal incoming freshman class size, although a few years ago there was a 3300. They want to have about 3000 place deposits because some drop out over the summer.
GT has many co-ops. And engineering takes lots of credit hours. The 4yr graduation rate is around 40%. 6 yr is 87%. Typically takes 5 yrs @ GT.
The tweet comes from the admissions office. If they have 3100 deposits like the tweet says the waitlist is closed.
I would put a link to the tweet but it would flag this reply for moderation.
They also accept about 1000 transfers a year increasing the undergraduate class size.
^ the easiest way into GT is to transfer in after a year or two at another college. The acceptance rate for transfers is around 33%.
So like @scubadive says, over the course of 4 years an additional ~4000 students are added via transfers. So 15500-4000 is 11500. 11500/4 is 2875.
