@ mukulagg Congratulations on getting admission at Purdue.

I do not know how the three schools compare in mechanical engineering.

Here are some opinions and notes FWIW:

[ul]
[] All three schools are good for engineering.
[] Urbana Champaign (UIUC) and West Lafayette (Purdue) are small university towns. These are mid-west towns and the cost of living is relatively low. Chicago is not that far from either of these towns.
[] I have visited Purdue campus a few times some time back. I heard that town looks much better now.
[] Aerospace engineering at Purdue is one of the best. So, my gut feeling is that Purdue probably has better mechanical eng. program than either Georgia Tech or UIUC.
[] Computer science/engineering at UIUC has a good reputation in the industry.
[] Georgia Tech. is a highly ranked engineering school. It is one of the top schools for bioengineering. It is also well known for signal and image processing.
[] Georgia Tech is at the center of Atlanta. This is both good and bad. It is not as safe as either WL or UC.
[] Weather in Atlanta is much better except during summer.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

You wanna become an automobile engineer?
, there is only one place you should think of, Michigan, apply there. U of M ann arbor kicks ass.

indianinsaudi - I think that is a bit overstated. Truthfully, mukulagg, I don’t see that you could do wrong with any of those choices. I think you should visit them all. Good luck.

to Maxxwell
you are wrong, GTech is top 6 in mechanical eng and top 4 in aerospace while Purdue is also top 4 in aerospace but top 8 in mechanical eng (USNEWS 2010)

and overall in engineering GTech is top 4, UIUC is top 5 and Purdue is top 12. and U of M is top 9. I think the best is GTech

None of them are very good. I think Gtech would give you the best allround education of the lot though. The other 2 are a little too big and very impersonal so not worth the money imo.
