Currently in my list I have the following places:
Georgetown
Brown
Cornell
Wash. U in St.Louis
Amherst College
Williams College
Bates College

HS stats:
*3.9 GPA
*Honors Society / Honors Program
*~150 community service hours
*~30 hours tutoring
*plenty of extracurriculars including community service clubs, poetry clubs, writing clubs...
*1720/2400 SAT

College stats:
*3.6 GPA
*Dean's List
*Summer internship in Yale
*current sophomore
*current bio / premed major
(applying for a bio major)

So what do you think? any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
thank you thank you thank you so much !

Are you applying as a freshman or sophomore? Your SAT’s are too low for Brown, Georgetown, and Cornell if you are applying as a freshman; everything to do with high school is weighted more heavily when applying with only one semester of college grades under your belt.

applying as a sophomore… =/

do you think it’s worth it retaking my sat ?

oh and forgot to add vanderbilt up there too :)

I think applying to Vanderbilt would be worthwhile to you. Based on everything I’ve seen they’re transfer friendly (roughly 50% acceptance rate). Just by asking around and sifting through past threads, it seems that a general GPA was around a 3.7 or higher, although I remember seeing applicants with much lower GPA’s that were accepted. With your bio/pre-health course load I think a 3.6 GPA would be very competitive.

I don’t think your SAT’s will matter as much with two years of college under your belt, and as long as you have decent letters of recommendation, a well thought out essay, and a few EC’s sprinkled in, you’ll likely be a competitive applicant for Vandy. I can’t speak for the other schools because I’m only planning to apply to Vanderbilt.

thanks for that
vandy’s definitely one of my top choices.

yo be completely honest with you, even with your impressive gpa, i’d say all of those schools seem hard to get into even whilst transferring. i went through the wash u, brown, cornell, and georgetown apps personally as a senior and they were bad enough. id like to see a higher SAT (over 2000) before you apply to any of those schools. your liberal arts schools seem more tangible choices.
