does Georgetown have more of a main centralized campus or is it mixed in with the city?

It’s a full on campus.

The Georgetown campus is a well-protected enclave tucked away on the west side of Georgetown.

When my daughter, who’s a rising senior at Georgetown, first mentioned Georgetown to me during her high school years, I envisioned a big city school with buildings scattered among city blocks – like something you’ll find in Chicago or NYC. However, when we visited, I was pleasantly surprised to find that it’s not that at all.

We think the Georgetown campus is beautiful and quite unique.

That description fits George Washington U perfectly. However, G-Town has a nice, enclosed campus, in the Georgetown neighborhood, near but not in the heart of the city. When we visited DC this spring, my DD loved G-Town but not GWU for that reason.

It basically has the feel of a gated community on a riverside hilltop. About 20 city blocks from the White House and 40 city blocks from Capitol Hill. The historic village outside of the gates is primarily residential, but within walking distance of dining and relatively upscale shopping. For example, there is an apple store, north face, polo, brooks brothers, j. Crew, coach, etc.
