Can you guys chance me for the following schools?
Georgetown
Duke
Northwestern
ND
WUSL
JHU
Vanderbilt
Brown
Emory
UNC chapel hill
What is your unweighted GPA? That is the one that will be used by adcoms. If you can hit 34 ACT, that will sweeten your chances at GU, Duke, etc. However Duke and Brown have become very competitive for everyone.
You will have plenty of nice acceptances with your stats, assuming no skeletons in the closet and excellent recommendations.
@fauve my school doesn’t tell me my unweighted but I’d estimate it’s about 96 maybe. And yeah definitely trying to hit that 34 on the act the english section just always gets me lol
I think you have a fair shot for all of them. Write passionate essays, and I think you’ll be fine. Just remember that admissions, no matter how “match” the school is, is a crapshoot.
You definitely have the stats to get into all of these schools, therefore, I would put you at a match for most of these schools while some like brown definately are a reach for everyone
You’re in range for every school on that list, it’s just a matter of how the chips fall. WUSTL is known to be finnicky though, even for people with your stats. UNC is also notoriously difficult OOS. Otherwise you’re looking great! good luck.
Thanks @verizonwireless and I don’t mind at all! For the writing which was my worst section it could’ve been a lot worse but I feel just doing as many practice sections as I could helped me immensely. I’m really bad with grammar rules so just getting a feel for the right sounding Sentance was how I tackled the questions. For math, I’ve taken advanced math since junior high so the content I already knew but also another big part of it is reading the question fully because the test aims to trick you on seemingly easy questions. But if you read it fully it should be easy if you know the material. Critical reading honeslty I got a little lucky that none of the vocab was impossible because I didn’t even study any vocab at all and with the passages just again like with the writing doing practice over and over and making sure you fully understand why you got a question wrong helped a lot. Most of my practice was from the college board blue book and I felt it was overall true to the tests actual difficulty. Overall, practice practice practice and go into the test well rested, fed and confident and you’ll do great!
Your SAT is better but definitely retake both. (preferably take the SAT before the new Hamster SAT goes into effect!) For chancing purposes, I’ll say you’re about a 3.9 UW. All of these schools are HEAVY reaches and high matches. I hope you get some full match and safety schools in the mix.
Georgetown - Reach
Duke - Reach
Northwestern - High match
ND - High match/reach
WUSL - Reach
JHU - High match
Vanderbilt - High match
Brown - Reach
Emory - High match
UNC chapel hill - High match, depending on if you are OOS or not.
Thanks! @thedidactic and yeah I’m planning on applying to some saftey schools I was thinking along the lines of nyu, BC for safties. Do you think these would be safties? What other schools should I consider addiding as safeties/full matches??
NYU and BC aren’t safeties. NYU is a reach and BC is a match. Your in-state flagship (depending on where you live) and other smaller schools like that can be considered safeties. It entirely depends on your location and where you would like to be. Rutgers is a match, SJU in Philadelphia can be a safety/match. George Washington University (GWU) in DC is a match. Ohio State is a safety/match, along with other big state schools, although if you’re OOS, it may be harder to get in.
Just remember to express interest in WUSTL, they LOVE that for some reason. Try to visit, or go to a uni fair where they have adcoms present. If you can’t do either, email them and ask them very specific questions that you cannot find on their website or something. When they respond, reply to their email with a: “Thank-you very much, I am now very interested in your $h1tty School” type email. If you do that, and write good essays ofc, you should get in.
Ok thanks I will keep that in mind @thedidactic also according to my schools stats for bc and especially nyu my stats are a lot better than those who got in at my school that was just my reasoning behind those as saftey/matches (also for nyu it’s probably because I live in New York so that probably has helped a lot of people from my school)
Omg thanks so much @anonymoose3 I was getting a little worried because as of now georgetown is my first choice and no one has really said I’d get in lol!
