Gtown IR vs. others'

How does Georgetown's IR program/SFS compare to schools like HYP, Columbia, or Tufts?

I know the Foreign Policy magazine rankings, but I don't believe these are always accurate.

I would imagine that some of Georgetown's pluses come from its location in DC and its access to internships, but are more prestigous schools able to attract better speakers or opportunities?

And how does the overall academic atmosphere help or hinder a the IR program? Is the atmosphere rigorous enough? Are most people, even those not in SFS, knowledgeable about politics/foreign affairs, or do the pre-med type people remain separate from the D.C. policy buffs?

*I acknowledge the bias in your replies since this is posted in the Gtown forum, but dispassionate debate would be very much appreciated!

based on my experiences at the Gtown model UN, (NAIMUN past 3 years) which is conducted entirely by Gtown undergrads, i see the atmosphere as intense but cool. they like what they do and what they study and know what they’re talking about, and they’re just as annoyed as the rest of us by the folks who come there and try waaaay too hard and act all over-pressured.

they have just as much fun as any college student. if that’s not what you’re looking for, I’d advise HYP
