GTown is My DREAM, will it come true?

A little depressed, got deferred from Harvard (expected), which got me worried about the rest of my schools. Give me your honest opinion... thanks!

I'd esp. like ANY info about which Georgetown school to apply to (School of Foreign Service or College). My main goal is to get into GTown, even though I'm leaning towards the SFS, i feel that not being in MUN or Debate or Junior Statesmen or watever you guys do might hurt my app. All ive really got going for me is foreign language. Give me some insight!!!

3.93 UW GPA (would be about 4.03 if I never took music courses all 4 years, which is a quarterly A-/B+) – 7 AP classes (max that I could)

also exhausted French courses at HS, taking 300 level courses fall/spring semester at Holy Cross College (A)

major: undecided

Sat’s I (taken once):
Math: 710
Verbal: 800
Writing: 800 (doesnt count at Gtown)

Sat II's (taken once)
Chem (10th): 690
Wrld History (10th): 690
French (11th): 770

AP's:
Euro History: 4
French: 5
US History: 5

EC's (mostly centered on music):

school's advanced Jazz Ensemble (9-12)

directed small jazz combo, perform for business parties, clubs, for $$$ and church charities/nursing homes and school/alumni functions (10-12)

church folk band, performed during masses (10-11)

private jazz piano lessons (9-12)

French Club (loose term, but travelled to Quebec/Montreal 10th grade for 5 days and France 11th grade for 10 days)

volunteering at after-school programs for school-age kids (12)

crew team (9)

Babe Ruth Baseball (9)

Awards (nothing special, school's not very awardish):
-national honor society
-national merit commendation

white male from MA, school is all-boys Catholic (~1200 9-12), explains ridiculously difficult sport teams. athletic, didnt realy shine through on app, but talked about it during interview, tennis player.

I also sent in a CD with two jazz solos, sounded near professional

Colleges:
Reach....

Harvard (deferred)
Penn
Brown

Target...
Georgetown
Columbia

Safety...
Boston College
Fordham

feeling a little shaky about my choices now. my GC might have had too high aspirations, shouldve advised me to apply to more places. Georgetown is my absolute #1 which I absolutely MUST get into (not sure if College or SFS, advice on which i have better shot at?). Penn is prob #2, then Columbia, then Brown. Not really interested in BC or Fordham. Let me know what you think! BE HONEST!

Can't really comment on chances because it is, as they say, a lottery. You have the stats that bought you a ticket...now you just got to get lucky. I can reassure you that your lack of "international", political, or debate type EC's may not hurt you at Gtown's SFS. My son had none of those and was accepted two years ago. Just let your passion shine in your essays. Good luck!

As solid a chance as anyone...definitely have a good shot.

thanks. SFS is definitely what im leaning strongly towards. It attracted me ever since I first looked into Georgetown. But even more I love the campus, love the Georgetown area, love the oppurtunities of DC (being from a small town, I need a city), and love the school. So my #1 priority is getting in, and since im not completely devoted to SFS, I feel my greater chance is at the College. Opinions appreciated!

Where do you go? St. John's?

I got into GTown and BC, so even though I didn't apply to SFS I would say you're probably in. I would not call Columbia a target. 13% is too ridiculous for anyone to be calling it a target (<a href="http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/webex/lowacc_brief.php)%5B/url%5D">http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/webex/lowacc_brief.php)</a>.</p>

That being said, your list is probably good and you will almost definitely get into one (most likely both) of BC and GTown

Georgetown: Match

heybucs, wat were ur basic stats, GPA, SAT, ya kno, so i can get an idea wat its like to get into the college

encouragement is good, any advice on College or SFS, anyone?

Check the Georgetown board, I think it's Post #84 on the EA Decision thread

bumpety bump

again??????

Dude, always be optmistic. Penn State was my dream, and my sisters there right now. I didnt get in, but trust me, im still optimistic that tennis willl come through, and if not, for a transfer. Ill be applying every semester for a transfer untill I get in. Dont worry, think about it, next year you;ll be away from mom and dad's *****ing and what not, on your own.

Good shot at GTown, but hardly a sure thing. BC is safe though and it's a great school.

haha yea BC is awesome, my only problem with it is that I live somewhat close (40 mins) to it, and I'd like to GET AWAY for college (DC)
