Gtown student seeks PA

"Job Description:

I am a Georgetown undergrad student and part time employee in the financial services industry. I am looking for someone to take care some of my everyday tasks for 1 hr a day, 5 hrs/ week, $12/hr. I live on campus which would make things very easy convenient for a Georgetown student. The normal pay per week will be $60 ($300/month), even though on occasion it will be possible to work additional hours and/or receive bonuses at my discretion.

The schedule is completely flexible because I do not need to be around when you do the work. You can even spread it out over the course of the day. As my PA you will receive an email once a day by 9:00 am with a task list for that day and a time estimate for each task. Important tasks will be bolded on the list and must be done that day (even though everything on the list should theoretically be finished on a daily basis). At the end of the day you will send me an email telling me what tasks are incomplete or that all tasks have been completed.

Tasks such as doing laundry that involve a lot of waiting around (time when you could be doing other tasks or doing your own stuff) will be counted for the approximate amount of time it would take to do the labor involved. For instance, laundry will be counted for half an hour even though a laundry cycle takes 1.5 hrs to complete.

Job Requirements:

PA example tasks -Organize closet -make bed -Drop off / pick up dry cleaning -Drop me off / pick me up from work -Do laundry -Fill up gas tank -bring car for servicing -schedule appointment for haircut -Pay parking tickets -manage electronic accounts -shopping and running errands -other random tasks.

Preference will be given to applicants who are comfortable with city driving (car will be provided) and who are available when I need to be picked up and dropped off for work. Preference will also be given to Georgetown undergrads for convenience.

Available Openings: 1

Hours: 3.0 to 7.0 hours per week

Compensation: $10.00/hour to $12.00/hour, Occasional Bonuses

Start Date: Immediately

End Date: End of School Year

Time Frame: Academic Year"

OMG! There are just some things in life that you have to do for yourself.

LOL. Where are all those posters who don’t think that many of today’s young adults have a sense of entitlement? You better believe this one is paying the PA with his parents money!

Wow. Makes for really interesting reading on some of the Hoya chat forums (not the Georgetown CC one). They’ve even “outed” the kid, so his identity is known.

let me guess: international student from Dubai?

Nope. White kid who graduated from the Landon School, private all boys day school in Bethesda, Maryland.

Sounds like what Mom probably did for him before college…

my favorite part:

From the list of tasks sounds like the person is missing “mommy” LOL.

One hour a day, 5 days a week, seems light for that job list. And counting laundry as only 1/2 hour – sounds like a wages & hours violation to me.

Hope this guy intends to comply with social security and unemployment tax requirements.

His parents probably ought to check their insurance. One would hate to have the servant run over one of the local peasantry while on his way to pick up His Lordship at his part-time financial services job, and then find out that they aren’t insured against anyone’s claim.

I wonder what the going rate for student workers around Georgetown is. My kids made about $12/hour in their college jobs, and they didn’t need to be anyone’s personal b**** to do it. I suspect he’s going to have to offer a substantial dignity premium.

Obviously, this guy deserves complete social ostracism for this.

He will learn a lot more from trying to fill this position and about supervising it than he will in many of his courses.

Wow. Unbelievable. Is this for real?

“pay parking tickets…”

ROFL!!! Is this for real?

My thoughts exactly!

He probably wants to be able to bring his latest hookup over without having her be grossed out by his pigsty.

The sad thing is that he is probably a decent kid who is absolutely clueless as to why we are all appalled at his “job posting”.

I just cannot decide if we should tell him where he went wrong or let him figure it out when his new bride tells him where to shove his “to do” list.

PA doesn’t have to entertain his lady friends too?

I smell a ■■■■■ (not barrons, but whoever posted the ad).

OK-- I think the kid is getting too much spending money (although it is possible he is funding this from pt financial industry job) and I doubt he will find an employee who agrees that laundry is $6 job, but other than that I am not sure I understand the objections. Don’t we all hire out the tasks we would rather not do? How does his desire to do so indicate that he will be a lousy husband?

Every single thing on the “list” my 21 year old just mentioned to me in a phone call he needs to do this week plus he needs to go grocery shopping and get his laptop fixed and he plays a club sport and has a part-time job but he doesn’t have any parking tickets to pay. It is tough, and yes you can “hire” a cleaning lady and someone to run errands. But it sure is ‘fun’ to pick on a this kid when we all know other kids somehow manage all this stuff without “help.”

Actually, if the student is working daily during a big chunk of the day (like 6 hours), plus attending classes and doing the necessary studying and homework for a full course load at a competitive school like Georgetown, then this really isn’t so terrible. He’s obviously privileged, and the parking ticket thing is hysterical. Some of our kids have jobs (mine has 3 part-time jobs on and off campus) and still do all their own stuff, but at least the guy is offering decent pay (with the exception of the laundry thing).
