Gtown vrs. BC

I have narrowed down my schools to these two, but now I'm stuck. Here are my pro-con lists for both schools... please tell me what you think!

I want to go pre-med, by the way, and in the College/A&S at both schools.

Georgetown:
~Better overall university (I think)
~Good medical school (plus the early acceptance program)
~I love the campus!
~I loved the atmosphere when I visited!
~DC!!!

BC:
~I LOVE the campus!
~I really liked my visit there.
~I LOVE Boston very, very much.
~Boston, again. It's like the ultimate college town!
~I got in the honors program, which sounds really interesting.

I'd love to hear any comments anyone has...

lol
i hav the exact same option
though im going for gtown
i just feel its more prestigious and the education is going to be better

what major in the College?

Just wanted to add that BC has an early acceptance program for med school as well, but it’s for Tufts med school.

I got accepted by both BC and Gtown as well. But I’m debating between Gtown or Tufts, depending on how much FA I get. But I honestly really really love Gtown. A vote for Gtown from me!

I would probably major in Bio.

alicimoo: Oh, thanks for the info! I think I’d heard that before, but I’d forgotten!

Tufts and Georgetown is a debate…they are both really really good schools. However, BC is a joke. There is no comparison. When I got the acceptance from BC I didnt even open it until a year after I matriculated…and ended up being offered a $10,000 scholarship for nothing. That’s how desperate they are for students lol.

Well I guess it all comes down to atmosphere and major, as both are great schools for pre-med. As far as Biology, you’ve got some great choices at Georgetown. You can major in the regular Biology (which also has sub-concentrations in Biochemistry, Molecular, and Cellular Biology (BMCB) or Ecology, Evolution, and Behavioral Biology (EEBB)), as well as Biology of Global Health, Neurobiology, or Environmental Biology. The Bio department at Georgetown isn’t as big as at other big name science schools, but it is the most popular pre-med major, as at most colleges. Facilities are ok, they’re going to start building a new Science Center after the MSB building is done (hopefully). What makes up for the facilities are the opportunities for research. You not only have great professors in the Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Human Science (NHS) departments, but you have the entire GU Medical Center right next door, with tons of opportunities for medical basic science research, which a number of Bio majors do. They’ve also added some interesting new biology courses, such as Cell Biology of Cancer, Functional Human Anatomy (with cadaver lab), Neurophysiology, Advanced Biochemistry, and Biological Physics.

As you know, there’s the early acceptance program, if you’ve got top grades in most of the pre-med courses by sophomore year, which allows you to know you’re in somewhere, and if you accept, you won’t have to take the MCAT.

There’s also GERMS, Georgetown Emergency Response Medical Service. You get to train as an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (EMT-B), and they respond to the campus and surrounding community, and have ambulances (you can train to be a driver as well). It’s really cool (I was in it), as you get to learn some basic clinical skills, and see another side of college life. BC also has an EMT group, by they ride around in bikes, GERMS has 2 ambulances. Lot’s of pre-meds get their EMT certification, but the key is to actually USE it, and GERMS provides you with MANY opportunities to do so.

DC is a nice city, Boston’s probably better, but Georgetown is in a nice area.

I really do love the different bio majors at Gtown, as well as the GERMS. Ambulances, huh?

KEVINX: Hm… I don’t think BC gives merit money, except for the 15 full-tuition scholarships given to the Presidential Scholars. Maybe it was FA?

I was waitlisted at Tufts, but I am not taking the spot. When I visited the school, it didn’t not seem like the right place for me (though that may have something to do with me not feeling well that day). I do love some of their traditions, though.

…no it definitely wasn’t FA…my parents are both physicians (we don’t qualify for any type of financial aid)…
