Gtown vs. Wharton at Upenn

This is not a joke. I was accepted into business program at both schools. Now what? I love the location of Gtown and the population of the students but I mean Wharten is Wharten. I am not in love with the location but I realize what a degree from that school will mean to my future.
What do you think?

congratz buddy, I got the same offer. I'll see you in Wharton because as you say, Wharton is wharton ;)

You CANNOT give up Wharton for G-town. Period. And in terms of location, UPenn's campus is waaay prettier, and while D.C. is fun, G-town is in GEORGETOWN, a very rich area with too many expensive shops and restaurants that not many college students can afford. Philly, on the other hand, has so many affordable places and is a great city with lots of history and cheese steaks-enough said. lol.

Seriously, it's not like Philly is so much worse than DC. There are so many shops, theaters, museums, etc. in Philly and all relatively close to campus. Plus UPenn is waay less preppy and more diverse in terms of the student body's personality. Also, UPenn is an IVY and seems more social/laid back...at least that's what I perceived after visiting both.

Good luck!

in high school, a friend and i were the only ones in the school to get into Gtown, and she also got into Penn Wharton. She decided on Wharton. You'll probably do the same. Wharton will most likely give you lots of opportunities you wouldn't have at Gtown MSB. Locationwise, Georgetown is in a much better neighborhood, and neither DC nor Philly is high up on the safe-city list. There are lots of expensive shops nearby, but there are also lots of inexpensive shops and restaurants right next to those expensive ones. I liked Penn's campus when I visited. From what I hear, Penn has a somewhat similar student body as Gtown, and it seemed that way when I visited. Lots of preppy people there too. Penn has Greek life, if you're interested in that. Georgetown doesn't. DC also has [free] museums, theaters, etc.

So I'd say that although you'd have great opportunities at Gtown MSB, and you wouldn't have any difficulty getting a job, Wharton is more established, has name recognition, and most likely many opportunities that you wouldn't have at Gtown MSB.

Thanks everyone but since I am not a very conpetitive individual the comments on this site really scare me in terms of the students at Wharton. Also, not being someone who is Jewish nor Asian, not a big party animal, etc my question is will I really fit in?

Haha, shut down by CCs ban on CP links/references.

Anyway, think about it this way: it's the next four years of your life, and it can be dangerous to try to mortgage your immediate future on the possibility of greater reward down the line. So, my advice would be to learn as much as you can about the two schools, talk to current students and alums, just get as much info as you can. If you're smart and motivated, you can succeed and go on to a high-powered business career with a degree from just about anywhere, so you should do your best to make sure you're picking "the right fit," as cliche as that sounds. Hell, the president of Bank of America got his BA in Finance from Georgia State.

Two real-life examples to illustrate what I mean. 1. A buddy of mine a year behind me in high school was accepted to Georgetown NHS but ended up going to a big, state, SEC football & party school instead. And knowing both him and Georgetown pretty well, I think he was happier there than he would've been at Gtown, for various reasons.

A girl applied to Georgetown and Harvard, among other places, last year, and was accepted to both. She decided on Harvard, went there, hated it so much that she didn't even finish out her first semester. Has spent the last few months doing various research pursuits. In the meantime, she applied to Georgetown EA, was accepted (again), and will attend.

Wharton is certainly a top notch education, and the girl who went there from my class seems to have enjoyed her time there. But that's a decision that should be made by you, not by the people who put together USN and Vault rankings. It's your life, not theirs.

haha great BAC reference. That president really helped the company out. I agree with the other stuff though. It's hard to put a price on misery.

Yeah, I won't lie and say that MSB is just as good as Wharton, they're both great schools, and a lot of kids would kill to go to either one, but it's clear that in prestige and name-recognition, Wharton takes the cake.

But, that aside, I agree with the other posters and recommend that you do as much research into the student lives of both schools and genuinely find out which school would suit you better. If you find that both suit you, I'd go for Wharton, but if Georgetown is appealing to you in other ways, I'd give it a second thought.

Well, you could do what I plan to do: Georgetown undergrad (so far so good), Wharton graduate (assuming I get in). Then you get the best of both worlds!

you should go to georgetown b/c i was waitlisted for wharton
haha jk :)
wharton of course!

this is a joke. you should go to wharton no questions asked.

I totally agree with you, Wharton >> Gtown in training and future job offer. At Wallstreet,
Wharton ranks as HYPSM, but Gtown is not.

go with your gut. do let ignorant social expectations steer you away from what you want.

if there was no difference in prestige which one would u choose?

Hi, so which one did you end up choosing?
I’m stuck between georgetown msb and upenn wharton too. I’m not a very comeptitive person and i’m more interested in the non-quantitative side of business. I feel like georgetown would give me more liberal arts, but wharton seems too good of an opportunity to pass up…so which one should I pick?
