GT's ACT->SAT Conversion

I don't exactly understand how they convert the ACT section scores into the SAT scores.
Since they only see English, Math, and Combined section scores for the ACT, how do they match up with SAT sections? Is it like ACT's English score to SAT's CR score, ACT's math to SAT's math (of course), and ACT's combined english/writing score to SAT's Writing score?

Also, if I send in a new ACT score that wasn't on the application but is much better than the SAT score, will they completely ignore my SAT scores and just look at my new ACT score? In other words, is there going to be any disadvantage for me putting and sending a low SAT score while also sending the higher ACT score later? (all of the ACT's section scores are higher than those of the SAT's)

im also really confused with the ACT/SAT conversion of sections…doesn’t it make more sense that the ACT Reading section is comparable to the SAT CR section rather than the ACT English section?

Tech uses the USG handbook to convert ACT to SAT. Here’s the concordance tables: [Appendices A - C - Academic Affairs Handbook - University System of Georgia](<a href=“Academic & Student Affairs Handbook | University System of Georgia”>Academic & Student Affairs Handbook | University System of Georgia)

Thanks BanjoHitter!

I now see how they would convert my ACT’s combined english/writing score to the SAT’s writing score. For the reading section, since they are using combined english/writing score to determine writing score, would they use the ACT’s separate english section score to convert to SAT’s reading score?

^^^^My D has applied EA at GeorgiaTech, and you are correct. ^^^^
Their conversions are posted on her BuzzPort Link and since she only sent ACT scores, using standard conversion tables it is pretty clear to see what they do:

ACT Combined English/Writing Score to an SAT score they call “Converted ACT Eng/Writing”
ACT English Score to an SAT score they call “Converted ACT English”
ACT Math Score to an SAT score they call “Converted ACT Math”

I hope that helps, I wish we knew what other schools do, this is too stressful.

^do her scores correspond to the concordance tables in banjo’s post?

It looks like they did, use Table 1, plug in your English ACT or Math ACT score for the “Composite Score” column, use the high side of the range and round up. Very generous conversion!

And Table 2 for Eng/Writing is an exact conversion.

Thank you very much ImaCheerMomma!!
That was really helpful.
But what do you exactly mean by “round up”?

oh sorry looks like they round up to the nearest 100, 765=770.

Oh, OK.

Thank you!
