“What will make one stand out from the myriad of equally qualified and more qualified applicants?”

At this point, not much. The only thing much left in your control is your personal statement. Your GPA & transcript are locked. Maybe you can improve on a test score. Your teacher recs will be set already.

Whether or not you’ll stand out is already set – it’s not what you do but who you really are.

"Whether or not you’ll stand out is already set – it’s not what you do but who you really are. "

This is all true, but it is also critical to let the admission officers truly know who you are. It is a chalenge with the cookie cutter type common application. You have to be inventive to get around the limitation of the common appl and paint a vivid picture of yourself :-).

^^^ I agree 100%. People should focus on how they present themselves rather than trying to re-invent themselves late in the game (if they are rising Juniors or Seniors) or trying to find that elusive “hook”.

If you have a 2000+ SAT and a 3.7+ GPA, I will get you into HYP.

I work with 20-22 kids every year, and at least 18 of them get in. I only ask for $2,500.

My brother goes to Harvard Kennedy School and isnt a Genius or has cured cancer by any means possible. He’s a regular hard working student and is able to hold a normal conversation with a student from a regular university such as myself lmao! Then again instead of watching TV he does read The Economist and being from Argentina he also enjoys watching Lionel Messi tear it up on the pitch! Just work hard and be yourself if you really want to get in.
