Forgive me if this has been answered elsewhere, I promise I did search the site to try to find the answer. My DS has received admission to UA (yea!) and has the stats posted online to be eligible as a Presidential scholar for full out-of-state tuition as well as an additional $2,500 from the Engineering Dept.
My question is, is there an official “award form” or something that will be sent out on this, or do we just go by the word on the website that this is guaranteed? My gut says don’t believe it until I see it in writing.

did she also go to the mybama section and click on the scholarship tab? son got email today about his app being received and it mentioned this:

To apply for Scholarships:

Once logged in to the myBama website, click the “Academic” tab and locate the “Application for Scholarships” link within the Admissions box (on the left-hand side of the page).

By submitting these pages you will be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible.

The priority date for entering freshman students to apply for scholarships is December 1.

Congrats to your S. Yes its guaranteed. DD is in the same situation and I contacted the financial aid office to ask the same question. That assumes of course they get their application in before the deadline.

About two weeks after receiving her acceptance letter, our D received a separate letter telling her she would receive the Presidential scholar and the amount of the award. So look for another letter to be in your mailbox. Congrats!

If you applied for admission and scholarship (and put Engineering as major!!! make sure about that!), then you will get some notification about Presidential scholarship in the mail. I think the Presidential scholarship info comes a few weeks after acceptance is received.

However, I would write to scholarships at ua.edu and request confirmation that they have received your DD’s scholarship application and her best scores…

I have 2 sons there now…one on National Merit and one on Presidential & Engineering. We almost made the mistake of missing out on eng’g scholarship by having the wrong major listed on his application. We formally changed that to engineering in time to qualify for that scholarship, too.

BTW…both boys love it there. This is DS1 3rd year and DS2 1st year. Both are in honors dorms.

And for the another person’s question…UA does NOT refigure HS GPA…it takes whatever your HS puts as the highest score…including weighted. UA doesn’t even remove religion or PE grades from the HS GPA. UA does not “superscore” SAT or ACT.
