I know I have asked this before but I can't find the thread and only two links were Montana State and information about Alabama. Is there any other scholarships that all you CCers know about that give aid out via only test scores?

If any information needs to be provided I have a low(2.7ish) g.p.a. and 32 act/1300(CR/M) SAT.

Hopefully someone can remember the few schools that award by score only. I remember hearing about one a while back, but I can’t remember which one that was.

It’s hard to find scholarships that don’t require at least a 3.0, a 3.3, a 3.5, or 3.75 GPA.

Is that an unweighted gpa and, if so, does your HS put weighted gpa on their transcripts? There are more schools that use reported gpas for merit than those who disregard gpa entirely! Also, what is your class rank? I have seen more than a few schools specify they will use test scores + gpa OR class rank.

If your junior and senior year grades are stellar, you may find that your state flagships are your best bets and that they will look at the entire transcript, not just the overall gpa. Remember, that “middle 50%” is just that - there are students accepted below that level. Apply early if they have rolling admissions.

Alternatively, look for schools for B students - there’s a thread on the Parent forum about that, though you’ll likely have to do a search. There are many schools listed that give merit aid for lower gpa levels.

Well I mean with my lovely GPA, does there need to be even more of that “splitter” showing? Adcoms will most likely either way see my g.p.a. as a slacker whether it be a slacker with a 32 or a slacker with a 35. And I mean this would be test #4 for ACT, which I mean I know I can probably hit a 33+ if I actually seriously self prep(First 2 nada prep, 3rd looked over a few concepts) but isn’t 4+ a bit excessive? And I’ll be retaking SAT with self prep (3rd) in October.

And I mean for “B” schools right now it seems Alabama is my best choice as I can get into their honors college with ease and I can apply super early so I won’t need many safeties if I can get in. Also Western Mich(Resident) I will be applying to as a surefire safety and if I get rejected everywhere, Community college I come!

Also if need be other stats of mine
Did the math~700 hours of community service atm (including time from stuff with 8+years).
2 varsity 4 year sports, 3 years of stage crew 2 years of m.u.n. 3 years of Appalachia mission trips, have a 104% in a community college biology class I am enrolled in atm.

I think you’re assuming every school is just going to glance at your stats and toss you in a pile…and that’s a myth. You really are more than a couple of numbers and many schools have a more holistic admissions review than you’re giving them credit for. Many would look at a strong upward trend combined with strong test scores as a sign of a maturing teenaged student…not an anomaly! Your EC’s, LOR’s, essays, and interview could all give them additional information to support that. If admissions decisions were based on a few numbers alone, adcoms would be replaced by computers and the decision process would be instantaneous! So polish your application package as best as you can and target some schools where your gpa is “reachable”…you may not be a candidate for the handful of top schools but that doesn’t mean that you’re not admissable at thousands of other schools in the country!

Oh yes thats what I mean once I get one or two early acceptances(I hope) under my belt I will be applying to a huge amount of reach schools as I have a guaranteed financial safety (Community College yum). I mean my list looks like these schools for sure + some.
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Loyola Chicago
Michigan State
U of Mich
St Louis University

And I mean if I had a 4.0, I could in actuality be using all of these schools above as matches/safeties as my App - G.P.A. I feel will be strong(not CC strong).

No school has to give you a scholarship even if you meet the printed criteria. Also the criteria can change year to year, especially if more kids make it than the budget allows.

It wasn’t long ago that Pitt pretty much gave the Chancellors to anyone getting over a 1350 in SAT (out of 1600) and a pass into the Honors College. Now to even be considered for the Honors College, the cut is over the 1400 level, and that by no means guarantees you a dime of merit money.
