Guaranteed Transfer - experiences

My daughter has been offered a transfer for next year. Can someone please give details on your "guaranteed transfer" experience? How was the engagement with Cornell post offer? Who did you keep in touch with from Cornell? How strict was Cornell with regards to their conditions and requirements for this offer? Academically, was your freshman year difficult because you had to meet Cornell reqs (ie. Bio and Chem for Biology)?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, I’m transferring into Cornell this year after being offered a GT from ILR last year. I’m not sure about the other colleges, but I developed a professionally close relationship with the people at ILR in charge of transfer admissions. They were very helpful all throughout the year with correspondence and answering questions, especially when the application process began around December. They really do go out of their way to make sure you’re aware of the requirements and submit your materials on time (and they’re very flexible if you’re having trouble with that as well as long as you’re consistent in notifying them). The ones you mostly keep in touch with is/are the person/people in charge of transfer admissions in particular for your specific college.

The conditions also depend on the college, but from my experience, they aren’t TOO strict with it but they do expect you to do your part. I don’t think I took some of the “recommended” classes in my freshman year but that wasn’t much of a problem (one of my friends who’s a Cornellian says they look strict about that on purpose because they don’t want people applying for the transfer who don’t really want to be there anyway and might be applying just for the hell of it).

As for freshman year at a different college, it really depends on the college. I didn’t have much more of a difficult time since some of the required classes for the ILR GT (like macro/microeconomics) were also a requirement for my program at my other university. They really aren’t that strict if you can’t meet one or two recommended classes and they totally understand if you have boatloads of other requirements for your other university that have to be completed in your first year there (I had around 2 required classes that I had to take in my first semester at my old university and another one that had to be completed within freshman year in either semester).

This is just my personal experience so it could be different for someone else. Hope it helped though  Best of luck to your daughter.
