Hey folks, I was just curious about how other recipients felt about the guaranteed transfer offer and if you plan on accepting it. I didn’t see any dedicated discussion toward this anywhere, so I went ahead and made this post.
I’m most definitely going to do it, but I’m curious as to everyone else’s plans for the first year. Are you going to a community college, an in-state college, or OOS? Somewhere else near Boston or somewhere across the country? Are you glad you got the offer or do you hate it? Let’s hear what you think!
I’m grateful that I got this option as I still have a chance to attend BU which is my top choice! This option is great to have and much better than a waitlist or flat out rejection. I accepted this and will most likely transfer next year, but you never know. You may go to some other school for a year and love it there and change your mind. As of right now though my heart is in BU. Also do you know if you are still considered a part of the class of 2022 once you transfer? @cheeeer@TomSrOfBoston
Cornell University also offers guaranteed sophomore transfer but they require that students enroll in a 4 year college for freshman year, not a community college. Is there a similar restriction for BU’s version?
@flhs23 If you transfer you will be part of the class of 2022.
Hi there…and thank you for starting this post. My son was offered this option for the College of Engineering September 2019. Honestly, he was totally bummed out as he considered it a rejection. He has been offered admission to the engineering departments at UCSD, ASU, Rensselaer, and the U of Washington (he is still waiting on Cornell and USC). He was waitlisted at Case Western He is a National Merit Finalist, 1560 SAT etc… all the checks in the boxes (well, he doesn’t play an instrument).
So, after a few days he now sees it as an interesting option. We are West Coast based and he is very interested in the Boston area. If BU is really where he wants to end up, what a great way to get there…and much cheaper for mom and dad
I know he must be bummed out and so was I but with the stellar stats your son has and the other programs he got into he should be very proud! He should look at it as an acceptance just for next year instead of this year! That’s the way I thought about it at least and also will be able to save money my first year and then go to my top choice! @napolimom
From what I’ve heard it seems like all of the transfer and international students are put into Danielson Hall for housing, and it is off campus and feels secluded and you are not a part of the main campus. If I go through with this guaranteed transfer program what will be my housing options? How limited will they be?

@napolimom our sons have similar situations! He also received a guaranteed admission to the college of engineering for fall of 2019. Such a strange decision, but we are also looking at it as a perfect safety net. After eliminating his other acceptances, my son is now trying to decide between the following 3 schools:
University of Washington (Direct to engineering admission!)
University of California, San Diego
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (a fabulous small research university- big rival of RPI. His favorite local school!)
We are from Massachusetts, so moving out to the west coast to snow-less locations will be a huge adjustment for my son. We’re going out there for a visit during April vacation starting in San Diego, then flying up to Seattle. This will bring us to the UW engineering open house on 4/21. Hopefully, seeing campuses as an accepted student will help him make a clear-eyed decision about where he wants to spend the next 4 years.
But having this guaranteed sophomore year transfer in his pocket will be very comforting! It’s proof that he can come home again if he wants to.
@LolliCoomassie Unless your son develops severe homesickness, U Dub and UCSD would be great schools for him. If you are considering UCSD OOS I assume money is not an issue.
@TomSrOfBoston LOL at your UCSD observation! You are exactly right. If he decides to go there it will mean me taking another job or winning the lottery.
They are great schools, but I do think homesickness may be an issue for him. His core group of friends are all going to school in New England/New York and plan on meeting back in town periodically. I think it will be a bit rough on him until he finds his people at college. Hopefully, this guaranteed ticket home to BU will help him through the adjustment.
Are other schools offering a guaranteed transfer with their admissions decision? This is the first I’ve heard of such a thing.
Does anybody know what are the exact terms of this guaranteed transfer? I was offered it but what would get your offer rescinded. On the website it says graduate high school in good standings, but what does that specifically mean?
