Guess what? Another Chances thread

GPA - 94-95% range (my private Catholic school doesn’t use the 4 point grading system; my school itself has been ranked first in the province of BC, not every year but a perennial contender)

Should be in the top 5% in a class of a little over 160

SAT I - 800 CR
800 Math
700 Writing
-----
2300 (will retake in October; hoping for upper-2300 range)

SAT II’s - 800 Math IIC
800 Physics
(will take later) Chemistry

AP’s (haven’t gotten the scores back yet) - Calculus BC
Physics B

EC’s (I know they’re not good) -
Currently in newspaper (will be editor-in-chief next year), two years
Currently in STRINGS, the school science club (will be secretary/treasurer next year), three years
Currently in Math Club, three years
Currently in Choir, three years
Play guitar, four years, play guitar for the church choir, two years, in a band that will probably put out a crap CD for our college apps
Choir, three years
Math contest veteran - set the school record in AMC 10, AMC 12, and the CMC Pascal; otherwise was school champ in CMC Cayley and CMC Fermat; was invited to the AIME invitational and set school record
Member of West Van Leo’s Club - regular volunteer at some canned food packaging warehouse that looks like a futuristic slave labour combine
Will be part of my school’s first ever Reach for the Top (a local academic decathlon type thingie where I get to be seen by anyone bored enough to actually watch the Knowledge Network cable 5) team; will be only one year, but hey, my school will have only had the team for that one year
Tutored English to a grade 2 immigrant for two years
W T F Taekwondo (that’s World Tae Kwon Do Federation, not whatever it is you’re thinking) for four years; will either be brown or red belt by the time of applications
Will be part of 2006 Shad Valley, a sort of a university prep summer camp thing
Will start and be co-president of the school’s first Chess Team (tentative, but likely - I go to a predominantly athletic school that’s trying to smarten up its “dumb jock” image, so the Prez will accept a chess team proposal)

Anything at a province-wide or national level? Nothing really, other than that Shad Valley thing, which is a national program. I think my band will put out a CD by admissions time (likely) or one of my stories or something will be picked up a publisher (unlikely)

Notables - Korean-born immigrant living in Vancouver, Canada
My older brother (one year older) has been accepted and will be going to Brown (would this affect my chances?)

umm.....ur retaking a 2300? doesnt seem like a very smart decision, given that u have a 1600 minus the writing section which they still arent really counting

Doesn't seem like a real lively thread yet... but in any case,

About the AP's. My school only offers two: AP Calculus AB and AP Bio. I'm took/taking both - the Bio course is a strange duck, really more of a formal first year university course than an AP course - but I will be taking the exam next May. My school is also opening up an AP Chem of sorts (an unofficial course that's really more of an EC for science students), which I'll be taking. The Physics B and Calc BC were self-studied and were the exams I took in May (Calc BC and AB are mostly similar anyway, with the real new topic being Taylor series).

Sorry... the computer seemed to have my brother's account on as default. That above post is really mine.

Also, it should read that the "AP Bio" course is a university course taught over two years, which is why I didn't take the exam this May.

Yea, why are you retaking your SAT´s? I would kill for a 2300, but not literally.

But I would check out Brown´s policy on Canadians, coz you seem to be a Canadian resident. I don´t know Brown´s policy on international students or even if Canadians fall under that category. But if you´re international, it´s gonna be a little tougher to get in because Brown can´t offer you any federal work study or loans to offset the cost. But if your parents are really loaded, there´s nothing to worry about.
