I just finished the CR secion in Barron's 2400 and i took a practice test. I cut the number of wrong answers in half!!!! isn't that awesome! i'm so excited because CR is my weakest section! I strongly suggest barron's!!

wow, Is barron's really producing great results? I just ordered a barron's 2400 and reading is my weakest subject as well. Can you tell me what you did to improve your scores so dramatically? I would love some advice as I am completely befuddled by the confusing passages.

Thanx

congrats on your prep success. Take that confidence into the SAT!

Someone on this board once said there is an observable difference in the level of difficulty between Barron and other pratice books. Barron is said to be tougher than the rest of books available on sale. Can anyone explode this myth ?. If a person doesn't do nicely on Barron, does that mean he isn't good or simply Barron is too much harder ? :)

i dont know if barron's is that much harder, but it gave me some really great strategies, like spliting the lost passages into chunks and answering the questions a little at a time.

wait are you using Barrons 2400 or the barrons SAT book?..and also i would like to know how long it took you to reach that improvement (hrs) as i am totaly lost in CR (Worst Subject..)

i'm using barron's 2400 and it only took me about a week. the strategies really worked for me . . . hopefully it holds up when I take the SAT again!!!

LizzieE,
i have the book, when u say strategies did u mean the READING acronym, or the specific strategies at the end of the chapter. other than splitting the reading up, did u think the visualizing was helpful, other techniques?

the visualizing was elpful for some of the more wordy passages. the main things that helped me are the splitting up the passages and looking at the questions ahead of time and marking the places in the passage that the questiond refer to.

I have the Barron's 2400, as well as many other SAT prep books. Out of all of them, Barron's has helped me more than any other book. The critical reading section is phenomenal. The people who wrote the book assume you already know what's on the SAT's, and you're shooting for a top notch school. They pass the basics, and skip to the real problems most people have on the SAT's. The word list in the back is very helpful too. =]

People usually underestimate my opinions since I am an 8th grader, but age doesn't matter from my point of view. I received a 2020 on the SAT's, with a 10 essay. I've used the books, and they work.

And no, I am not a nerd with no life just studying all day. I have friends that I hang out with. I skateboard, snowboard, do Taekwondo, and play soccer. I have enough free time on my hands so instead of wasting my time playing computer games when it's raining outside, I study, and not just for the SAT's.

No but seriously, Barron's is an awesome book.

misterwang... i don't trust 8th graders.

Actually, I didn't even trust myself when I was in 8th grade.

misterwang that is incredible that you are so motivated to study for the SAT's and still keep a normal social life. Thanx for the advice b/c I just bought Barron's 2400, so it's nice to hear a word of assurance that this book will work.
