Guidance counselor reports

How does a counselor know your ECs? Do you send a resume?

Anyone!!!!

Well I assume that you have conferences with your guidance counselor? You should have a good relationship with your guidance counselor; I have known mine for two years and she knows me pretty well as a person and we talk about everything (not just school and college). Just talk to them about it - they are on your side.

yeah...and my school doesnt even have a guidance cousellor!

Our high school gives each senior a student profile to complete. On it the student lists all in and out of school activities, honors, awards, etc that they have had during high school. They can also note any specific area they would like the GC to highlight in the counselor report. The reality is that my daughter's GC has seen her four times...to schedule her classes. It's not exactly a meaningful relationship. He has over 100 kids who he will be dealing with. The likelihood that he would have time to "talk about everything" is not realistic. To be honest, the colleges have to know that in many cases (especially at larger schools) the GCs are completing these forms without a lot of personal knowledge of the student. Any way..I'm digressing...DD gave her GC AND her teacher recommendations a short resume type of sheet so they would be know about her activities and accomplishments both in and out of school.

Thumper 1..
So basically, prior to filling out the senior activity sheets, the guidance counselors and the school have no clue what a student's ECs are?

They would know prominent SCHOOL activities...but it is unreasonable to think they would know ALL of the activities both in and out of school for over 100 students.
