Guidance Couselor ?

Does Penn ever call guidance counselors to verify extracurriculars? Should I inform my counselor of all my activites, so they are able to answer any questions? Just getting a little concerned since my school is so big and I doubt my couselor knows all that I do. If anyone can answer that would be great!

bump.......!

no they don't, I assure you they don't, unless if it's something not easily believable like "created a human" or something

actually, they do. does your counselor need to know all that you do? no, but if you lie about something on your app and a college sees a reason to look into it, they won't hesitate to contact the HS. your counselor's job is to deal with these things - and the college will only call if something is weird

The regional adcoms know the hs's in their region pretty well and know which are big zoos and which are small private schools, so they wouldn't expect that the guidance counselor in a oversized public school would know each applicant as well as in a small private school.

OTOH, it doesn't hurt to get to know your guidance counselor better. Sometimes the adcoms do call up to discuss all the applicants from a school, not really to investigate for lies but just to have a general discussion about the applicants from that school, and if your GC has something nice to say about you in particular it may have a favorable influence. It's hard to say anything nice if they don't know you. But again the adcoms don't have the same expectations of big school GCs.
